Meanie! It's currently -20C here (-4F) - at least it isn't snowing right now.
I live between two mountain ranges, so it's nothing to clear a foot of snow off
my car in the morning, drive to work, and after 8 hours clear another foot of snow
off my car again! Two feet overnight doesn't even phase us, so when a city is shut down
over 4 inches we just shake our heads. Did I mention it's dark by 4p.m. for the next
couple of months?

Sherri - I'm curious - where are you? (you of course don't have to answer  ). I'm in the Shuswap - it's -26C and sunny here this morning - we don't see sun very often in the winter so the cold doesn't bother me (being from Calgary helps - gets much colder there!) It's the cloudy days and numerous feet of wet sticky snow I can't stand.

Bullshit. We haven't had one storm yet. These 2 and 3 inch snowstorms with ice is what we around here call winter!!!  A snowstorm is at least a foot of snow.

. . . or two feet. You can't really tell from these pics (other than the layers on the table and deck rails), but that's about what we have! At least it's cold so the stupid stuff is fluffy, but we've shovelled three fluffin' times today and it's snowing again  .

Today in Chicago:

Winter Solstice occurs at 6:04 a.m. making this Chicago's shortest day of the year, 9 hours and 8 minutes. Temperatures start off around 5 degrees above zero and stay almost steady throughout the day. Strong westerly winds at speeds of 30 m.p.h with gusts over 40 m.p.h. combined with the 5-degree or lower temperatures will drive wind chills to dangerous 20 to 25 degrees below zero levels. Overnight winds diminish, but falling temps keep wind chills 20 degrees below zero.

And it was even colder than that.

I'm in Revelstoke - we don't usually see the sun much either, but this cold weather is bringing clear skies.
Now that we have the Revelstoke Mountain Resort (highest vertical feet in North America) no one can afford
to live here! Everyone I know is moving to Salmon Arm or Armstrong, so if you're in those areas watch out
for an invasion of Revelstokians over the next two to three years :P

Not much work in SA, so I hope they have jobs before they come here! My husband's heading to Calgary after Christmas to work - hopefully it'll work out and we'll be moving back in the Spring! (If you know anyone looking for a house here let me know  )

Deciding if it's worth going outside just to see how long it will take for my nuts to crawl into my stomach. Though it is cool throwing hot water into the air and watching it crystalize. Kinda like this dude. Sounds like a young Deano.

This is my house...taken about 1/2 hour ago. I wouldn't give up our winters for the world. When you're raised in this climate, you take advantage of the white stuff. Four months of the white powder means skiing for me in some of the northeast's best places (Jay Peak & Killington, Vt., Mont Tremblant Quebec & Whiteface Mt. outside of Lake Placid in upstate NY). If you're not into that, you play hockey...nothing like a good outdoor game to make your lungs burn. I guess if you don't like either of those options, you can always be a drunk.

The South is nice for vacation, but I wouldn't want to live their permanently.

She's from the south, dude. The only time she is used to seeing ice is in her drink. The one thing I learned after living in the south for 13 miserable months is that people in the south have no freakin' clue what cold even is and people in the northeast really have no idea what hot is.

That's a bad pic taken with a cameraphone. A week ago, we had no snow. Today, we're on our third storm in a week and it's not supposed to end until 1 pm tommorrow. My snowblower shit the bed, so I need to find Tito to shovel me out. Anyone have any good leads?

lol...I just ran outside in shorts, a sweatshirt and a hat to start my car because it's -3 out (-30 with the windchill when it gusts) and I want my car to start tomorrow. My neighbor just waved and said hello. In the South I would have been carted off to the nut house. Southerners really have no clue what cold really is. You're right about that!

Hey, you're in SA! Most of the people I know that are moving are retiring, so at least they won't be
competing for what few jobs are left - they're about the same age as my parents and looking to golf
full-time  . My friends have moved quite far away and I'm considering moving to the Island next year.

I just saw a friend of mine who lives in Calgary and he said there are still lots of opportunities there for
work - it sounds like you're looking forward to moving back. How do you like SA?

By the way, when you put your house up for sale, PM me because I happen to know a few people who

Not really. It should be illegal to be 80 degrees on Christmas Day, ANYWHERE!

31 celcius predicted here - about 90 farenheit, I think. Which is nice - it's usually 37+ on Christmas Day.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!
