I'm not a fan of him, personally.

I think that he gives his falsetto shame. He sounded pitchy.

Just saw Adam's version of Ring of Fire. I thought it rocked :!: Great song, loved the middle eastern arrangement. The fact that Simon hated it was icing on the cake.

It was strange, but I liked it! The best part was Randy Travis' reaction to him - " I haven't seen too many men who wear nail polish"

OMG - He turned Johnny Cash' "Burnin Ring Of Fire" into a fucking rock opera. It seemed more like the Rocky Horror Picture Show than country music.

Fuck yeah!!!

Already up on You Tube, but it's audio only and cut off at the end. You can't really get the full effect of what he did without the visual. I love this guy but I think you really have to see him perform to get the full deal.

In spite of the rather theatrical presentation and his obviously gay look. I really like his voice. He's different and I'm so sick of the usual male singer clones out there.

Well that's great because this show isn't really about singing talent as much as marketing a certain 'look'....

Why the hell do they have to do this stupid country music week every year? Most of the contestants are clearly not comfortable with that genre and it's so friggin' boring. At least Adam did something completely different - well OK, really different.

You're right. I agree that the best singers don't always win. For example, Jennifer Hudson should have won instead of Fantasia. However, winning the show isn't that important, but it does give some talented singers the opportunity to get discovered.

You're dead on with that statement, I believe.

Melinda Doolittle was, in my opinion, the best singer during Daughtry's and that crew's season. SIMON was noticeably pissed after receiving the news.

I stopped watching idol after that.

Yeah -- I was really upset that she lost. It's a shame considering the amount of talent that she has.

Think they've suggested a brightly colored straightjacket for her impressive wardrobe?

Adam is the best male vocalist in the history of the show. Will he win? Who the hell knows with all of the idiot voters in this country?

And P.S. Carrie Underwood is the best female vocalist in the history of American Idol.

Now, I am definitely not an expert on vocals, nor have I seen all of his performances, but judging from the video link posted at the original post, I disagree.

I think, according to technical skill and overall fan base, Chris Daughtery takes that label.

I don't think it was blaspheming Johnny Cash. IMO he would have liked the fact the singer made the song his own. After all toward the end of his life JC covered a Nine Inch Nails song. He was a pretty open minded guy.

Who cares about fan base, Clay Aiken, Carly Smithson and Adam Lambert sing Chris Daughtery under the table. Chris a good rock singer, but he doesn't have HALF of Adam Lambert's range.

Adam Lambert is this year's David Cook. In addition to his voice and his look, his tack is to standout by doing songs differently. Good or bad, it will keep him in the limelight. And unless AI changes their rules entirely, then he's got them all figured out. I for one applaud his boldness...not necessarily in his arrangement choices, but probably moreso by throwing it all back in their faces. They always talk about 'taking chances'. This is one area that they can't argue. He may win it all.

Btw, Kris Allen did a great job with Garth Brooks. He took that song and totally avoided the country theme. He turned it into a pop ballad. As SC said, it was 'terrific'!

You're entitled to your opinion, but don't force it to the audience as though it's an objective statement. Either way, Adam Lambert can have Steve Perry's fucking range and not know how to use it properly. Range is irrelevant when discussing technical skill.

You were fine up until this segment.

Range is a major factor in one's technical skill, along with power, phrasing, control, versatility, and stamina. It would be one of the Four Horsemen if the Four Horsemen numbered six.

What I think you meant was "range is irrelevant when discussing technical skill if it is not applied properly." And even then, that's iffy.
