In reality, which is not where most of the die-hards (on either side) live... ... it's neither good nor bad. Totally subjective based on which team you bat for. If you're a "Perry ruined Journey and they ROCK so hard without him!" guy (or girl) then it's a bad thing because he will be seen as "up to something" and his release will be "SUSPICIOUSLY TIMED!"

If you're a full-on wack-a-loon, then it's a good thing because "he's going to blow Journey off the map! Drool drool, squish squish..."

If you are in the middle and don't really give a damn about conspiracy theories and excessive drooling, and just like the music, then it isn't a good or a bad thing. It just 'is'.

Well if they come out at the same time it will sure make for some great threads on MelodicRock!!

HOO BOY! A head-to-head show down. Perry v. Journey and/or Perry v. Pineda? Andrew will never get any sleep.

I think Andrew would be delighted to have significant discussions on MR as long as they are CIVIL and RESPECTFUL.
He might want to consider increasing his bandwidth though.

60 versus 40. Pineda blows Perry out of the water TODAY, and I don't care what anyone says. I know for most of you, Perry blasting farts over audio will do, but don't expect his new CD to be anything spectacular. The man is 60, and who knows how old he will be if he ever stops being a putang and puts out an album. He doesn't even trust himself, thus disappearing in the music world altogether confirms that.

Youngjrny while I respect your oppinion, you have not heard him sing live have you? 60 is not a death sentence to a singer. :D

True, I have not. But being out of the business for so long, and given that he will never reach the peak of his ability ever again, he will do nothing but dissapoint. Sometimes I think Perry hanging it up for good adds on to his legacy as THE VOICE. This leads people to debate him for eternity and add to his legend. Him coming back, and more than likely disappointing when comparing to his prime, will ultimately take a hit to his legacy. But what do I know, that's just my opinion.

You forgot numerous quips from Stevew2 about loons, Friga, and why Jason's the best thing to happen to the board in a while and that they're buds (if ya no wut I meen) .

WOW---dude, I don't know how much you've had to drink tonite but have another drink on me.

Was anything I wrote untrue? Steve's been singin' your praises for a while. Less Friga more Jason in his posts. Not that there's anything wrong with that. :D

Sometimes a man's voice gets richer as he ages..........high notes do not a great singer make............I have full faith he can do it again. His voice is unique. Beautiful, even in lower registers. I respect your oppinion, but I have seen him sing twice...........Never have I ever heard another singer move me so much emotionally. And Youngjrny I am not in love with him at all...............just his talent, and way with an audience. :D

Unfortunately, Perry is a singer who is known for his incredible range and high notes. People would expect this from him, and who knows if he could still deliver. In every sense of the word, I hope your right. I believe that he's done and it's a longshot for him. When people think Steve Perry, people think 1980 Steve Perry. That's where it needs to be realized that he is an old man now, although reportedly in good shape.. every shaving of a year older, it'll just get worse and harder for his comeback.

If it's ftlosm type music it will be Perry fans that love it, but the Journey/Perry fans who want the Perry they remembered rocking it probably won't care and won't buy it: Just like ftlosm - gold/ tbf - platinum. and if they had toured to support tbf, it would have been higher than platinum.

I like the three duets SP does with Helen Keller (Tracks 10,11 and 12). Potential Grammy material there for sure.

60 is a number, and has NOTHING to do with physical age or attitude. Some people have found the fountain of youth and I get the feeling SP is one of those people.

IMO, He's going to blow you all away with his beautiful voice, albeit, not the 1980's voice!

FTLOSM isn't regarded as a masterpiece. I'm just speaking for myself, I want a SP that has soaring vocals and gets the job done with satisfaction, not some half assed album just to put something out to please everybody.

That's where it needs to be realized that he is an old man now, although reportedly in good shape.. every shaving of a year older, it'll just get worse and harder for his comeback.

Wow, you must have missed the airport picture. If that's an "old man" in that picture, you need glasses bad YOUNGJRNY.

60 is a number, and has NOTHING to do with physical age or attitude. Some people have found the fountain of youth and I get the feeling SP is one of those people.

IMO, He's going to blow you all away with his beautiful voice, albeit, not the 1980's voice!

LOL, I love your attitude. I really do. But, it is what it is. A silhouetted Steve Perry sitting on a stole doesn't prove anything of what physical condition he is in, or if he can still hit the notes in DSB. Just because he still has black hair, and wearing coattails doesn't clear the fact and reality that the man is 60 years old! There is no indication that he can't do it.. and there CERTAINLY isn't any indication that he can. It's all speculation.

I want him to prove me wrong.. but what other explanation is there that this guy hasn't done squat for over a decade? That right there PROVES that something isn't right with the man's ability to live up to expectations. In today's day in age, lucky for him, he could side step any obscurity he has in his voice with the studio production, but as far as a tour would go, I don't think he would be able to do many. 5 at an absolute MAX if it ever came to be.

Speaking for myself only, I have to disagree. While I agree Perry is known for his incredible range and high notes, that is by no means the only thing he's known for. Surely any reasonable person understands the man is not 28 yrs old anymore and realizes and accepts the aging process. IMHO Perry's voice didn't even start to get good until the Frontiers era, and I didn't really fall in love with that voice until Street Talk/ROR. While I appreciate and am astounded by his earlier work, it wasn't until his voice matured that I was truly hooked. From my personal standpoint, unless his name is Little Anthony, I don't want to hear a 60 yr old pensioner out there singing ridiculously high notes (i.e. Perry circa 1980) - not on a regular basis, anyway. If his voice is something close to what it was in the late 80's I'll be a happy (and somewhat squishy) Loon.

I will agree, though, that the longer he puts it off, the more difficult the comeback will be.

I'm done being a smartass (but I can't promise it!) :P

With a tracklist like this, I bet even Arnel could get by without any diction issues.

Come on, Gun... not even Arnel can NOT sing like Steve Perry could not sing!

I like the three duets SP does with Helen Keller (Tracks 10,11 and 12). Potential Grammy material there for sure.

1. Hasn't needed the moola in decades.
2. Is a perfectionist.
3. Wants to live a private life.

I don't expect any of this to change.
