Yes, but at least Styx is being honest....they're not masking the fact that they are a nostalgic karaoke band. Journey is pissing on your leg, and telling you it's raining......

Yeah ... touring the world in a new musical direction sure seems to prove your point.  If they wanted to, Journey could stay in the U.S. for ever and play 75 shows a year with nothing but the greatest hits. But they're not. They're taking their new music and singer to 20+ countries. Wrong again!

That argument has sucked assholes since about 1987.

What he said.

Besides, if this album is one of their best in a long time, then it really matters not if their last album goes out on a high. Ross said in an interview that there will be a Journey as
long as Arnel lasts. They will still tour, regardless of whether they record new music or not. As far as those that believe Journey is gonna retire after this tour, well, stand to be proven wrong when they run 5 more years after this. Cash that check.

"best new album" as in best selling? Or simply gets critical acclaim?

I just said it would be their last album... and yes I believe the cash cow will tour as long as AP is willing to sing the Dirty Dozen for them... I also believe this is JC's last tour... they can hire a keyboard player..

I don't know about tribute band vids, but I do know they yanked most of our videos from the Vegas show a few days ago. Deja vu for me -- the only other time I've ever had a video removed for copyright matters was footage of Journey from the private RE/MAX show in '08.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that they removed the videos so fans don't get a flawed first impression of the new songs. The 30 second album clip of City Of Hope sounded incredibly good from a production standpoint, and it had those layered vocals and incredible sonic that you can only get from the album version. They probably want the first listen for the majority of U.S. fans to be the album version. I had already issued a self-imposed moritarium on listening to the new clips before they disappeared so it didn't bother me. And I doubt you cared much either, Rip.

So in other words, nobody plan on recording any parts of the J shows this summer and trying to youtube them, even though that's been done for years now, and tons of other bands don't seem to care it will affect who comes to see future shows. What a super lame excuse or reason, if that's what it is.

 I don't record stuff anyway, I just enjoy the show, but it sucks for people who can't get to a show to not get to see anything live that way at least :?

My guess is that once the album is released that it'll go back to business as usual, and they're not in the U.S. until well after the album release.

That does make sense for the new stuff, since no one even knows what the songs are supposed to sound like yet, so hearing them for the first time on youtube is definitely not the way to do them justice. I can understand that totally. It's just the old stuff being taken down too that doesn't make sense.

We're on the same page, Mel. The only thing I can think of is that it's far easier to simply wipe out someone's entire account, rather than sift through each video one at a time. And, unfortunately, that makes sense. Me? I'd be a prick and put the videos back on there every day.

Right now, if you search, there is very little Journey stuff on You Tube, except the old videos featuring Perry. I think I have an idea who pulled the plug on
the more current videos. SP probably got butt hurt about the current popularity of the band and had his legal eagles shut it down.

If he isn't going to be out there in the spot light, well Neal and Co. isn't going to be getting any more pub than SP can legally control. :D

I have a question. Does Journey ban cameras and video recorders at concerts?

As far as I can remember, most venues were always pretty cool with both. So I'm guessing that Journey doesn't mind.

Except for the usual signage that looks like this:

Or the line at the bottom of the tickets that says: NO CAMERA/VIDEO/RECORDING DEVICES

...other than that they're cool with it...

I still maintain that this all about ticket sales. The band/mgt doesn't want any potential concert goers getting any false impressions due to YT. Their intent is to make people go to the shows to see what current Journey is all about.

Whether or not it's new Journey vs. old, they are embarking on a major world tour. They don't need any interference when it comes to someone deciding to buy a concert ticket. I mean, I'm sure they don't want anyone NOT going because of a poor quality YT vid of a differnt guitar player, drummer, or pianist.

I guess the AP vs SP argument is a little different animal. We'll see.

The new music sound seems to me like they are trying to get out from under that animal. Good on them. Besides, anyone with an ear clearly
knows that AP doesn't sound like SP. He has his own voice, but can channel the great one to some degree because the fans want to hear that
similar sound. It's part of his job. I hope some new music catches on and the band can shed some of the past and people will embrace more
of the new. Wishful thinking, but....... :D

it's mostly venue, to venue (Sometimes State law0 against allowing photos to be taken in a public place where alcohol is served. Most often the bands, especially these days, are hip to the viral hype, and like to allow as much Photos, youtube, and fan postings on the net.

Labels, and production companies hate it.

For the most part, it's Columbia, or wallmart, or who ever is on the distribution end (And alot of record contracts contain "All Media and Video rights" for the songs on a project, like revelation, or actual Music videos, AND Live concert performances... even amateur fan videos, of certain songs, would have to be licensed by the label.

More then often bands are oblivious, or actually "against" their own stuff being pulled. I actually know an artist that has her street team and fans, post videos, music videos, all the stuff they can find or takes, and encourages video taping at shows where Venue permits, and still, her label, will take all the songs in their catalog down.

I think it's removal does the opposite of what they think. Look at the reaction in here... even people who necessarily didn't like the clips didn't say - "This is shit, I'm not buying this record" rather, the opposite happened.... this is poor quality, I really want to hear the record. The more footage out there, make you want to Check out the record, AND go see the band live. If labels would let this stuff go, inface push spend money to help the best user submitted videos go a little viral, it's fans, actually helping hype, and promote the act.

Everyone looks at this through such "Copyright eyes" that they're missing seeing the "Promotional Benefits" its gonna happen anyway, why not "Run towards" the problem, help fund, and advertise around it, reward and encourage fans with the best footage, and allow a saturation of the market for your band, where everyone is "Pulling stuff"
