So is Journey with Elvis, but what's the point of citing people whose careers are dead?

And they'll be proven wrong when the album debuts in the top 3.

My point is Rush vs. Journey in their prime, hands down Journey=bigger draw. I would definetly be happy if the new album is a top 10! I think they are capable of doing that again.

Remember it's also going down as a top 3 Journey album too!

Because they can't. It's like trying to get across town in rush hour traffic. You can't. But wait til 3:30 in the morning and you can by DEFAULT. Journey would need no one releasing an album that week, and the help of everyone buying it at the same time to accomplish a top 20.

Just a note, Journey's last album to debut at #3, Trial By Fire (145,400 units sold) barely missed the number #2 spot which went to Bow Down by Westside Connection (145,500 units sold). Van Halen came in at #1 that week With Van Halen - Best Of Volume 1 (233,500 units sold).

First album with SP after 10 years....that VH album had 2 new Roth songs on it; Me Wise Magic, and Can't get That Stuff No More...Both CDs had stuff by singers that hadn't sang for their groups for 10 years....THAT'S why they debuted so high....

I thought Gary Cherone sang "Me Wise Magic" on that VH GH?

"Humans Being" was kind of new too.

As a 3 pack with a greatest hits, and dvd, for $9.99 or food stamp equivalence!

ROR sold on it's own. How much were cd's going for in 86? $24.99? Hell even cassettes and lp's cost more than $8.

First off, it was $11.99 and Journey should never have to apologize for giving their fans a great deal. Besides, GH has sold 15 million units, so I doubt anyone was buying this package for the GH. Regardless, this album will sell more than Revelation.

No, but they were forced to basically 'give' the stuff away or not sell anything.....true story. casual fans don't buy cds. Crazy filipinas do. So this issue is confounded....Journey doesn't do things for their fans. They kept it cheap to push the goods, or Walmart was the only offer out there, either way they were peddling subpar material....

CDs cost around $10 in 1986 (= about $25 today I think), however the majority of purchases back then were still in the cassette and LP format which were a bit cheaper.

I bet there were a lot of people who bought it because it contained the hits. If there wasn't a market for it. Why include it?
Reminds me how my sister bought Bon Jovi's "This left feels right" because it had hits. She was pissed when she listened to how the band crapped on their classics. I bet there was a lot of that with Revelations too.

No way Don. My brother bought his first cd player in 85 and I remember him paying well over $20 for cd's from record stores.

$9.99 was the suggested retail price in 1986. When CD's came out in 1985 they were anywhere from 16 to 24 bucks or more, then gradually started decreasing in price. I bought them when they first came out and can attest that after the first year, the price started to drop. As the 90s approached and the format took off, the price started going back up again to match the economy.

The mantra around here was that Neal and Co were evil, greedy bastards and now that's shifted to them giving stuff away because so many were dead wrong about Revelation and Live In Manila. Typical revisionist history. Too much. Can't wait to hear the next excuse when Eclipse sells more than both.

For the folks keeping score at home, let's list the things that the malcontents have been dead wrong about:

-No new music ... wrong ... twice!
-No new DVDs ... wrong ... twice!
-No charting album releases ... wrong! (soon to be twice)
-Touring to small audiences and fading into obscurity ... wrong ... every year!

Any *other* predictions that the resident Einsteins would like to make?

Exactly my thoughts, and when the word spreads around that this is a much more hard rocking album it`s quite posible that people who normally would discard Journey because it`s to soft for them will give it a try and driving up sales.

There are 2. One penned by Neal and Arnel, and the other penned by Arnel and his brother. But I'm sure Jon helped out, too. Looking forward to hearing them.

It's not like Jon didn't have a big hand in writing all the music on the album.

We can't go by the debut ranking at all. Remember, the Manila DVD debuted at #1 yet hasn't even been certified gold, while, Live From Houston and Vegas 2001 both missed the top 20 when they came out but ended up going platinum anyway.

I look at numbers close to Arrival in the 400k to 500k range.

I would like Houdini to tell us if this conglomeration will be memorable!!
I don't mean in terms of radio airplay, I mean in terms of our hearts and minds.
Will we carry these tunes w/us through many moons or will the excitement
end when the circus closes?!?! What kind of long~term record will this be?!?! :?
