So, can you pry more than a 30 second clip out of mgt.? 10 more weeks seems a long time to try to maintain momentum without something more to drip-feed the hard-core fans.

Hmmm, are you being funny, or did you miss the fact he has the whole album now?

I have the feeling he's had it for a while ... given the "constant repeat" comments. I meant permission to put more than that one 30-second clip on his site for us to listen to.

I agree. I wish they would release a single a month ahead of the album. Bands and pop acts do it all the time. Even if it gets no radio play, it will get a lot of YouTube hits and melodic rock sites playing it and will build interest for the album. But, at the very least, a minute or more clip of one of their songs.

ok, better question. Apparently, it's a great album. Do you think it will appeal to the casual Journey fanbase? ie....will it sell?

I hope so. I really hope so. I can't imagine any regular fan of the band not loving this. Might frighten a few off though!

Given how many longtime fans reacted negatively to Red 13 and keyboard-free tracks like The Time, we shall see.

Can't speak for Eclipse, but Too Hot to Sleep was only dramatic in change for JJ-era Survivor. More of a throwback to the Bickler era mixed with some of the WSC sound more than anything else. THTS is a bit heavier, but not that far stylewise from Caught in the Game.

Just hope that Eclipse finds an audience....which is something that Too Hot to Sleep sadly didn't.

it could be that pre-Perry era Journey jam-band fans may take to it easier than the Perry era fans... as it has more progressive/fusion qualities than the more "pop" Perry-esque style...

I always thought the main issue with Red13 was the lack of choruses. The songs themselves were strong. They just needed a "Journeyish" chorus written in, and the song structure tightened up.--which is where an outside producer would have helped.

While I would like to see this album sell well, screw the casual fans, if they don't like it. This was an opportunity for artistic expression and
it looks like the band took it. I'm sure Neal feels liberated....finally. They'll continue to do well touring and this album's
sales won't make or break anything. Infact, they might just expand their fanbase a lot.

True, but this is nothing like Red 13. This is big, epic and lots and lots of melodies.....

There is no way this band could EVER have recorded tis album with Steve P. No offence to Steve, but it simply rocks so much and Arnel is pushed the outer limits of human ability with some wailing vocals. And you know what - he spends a lot of the album signing in his own natural timbre, not trying to be SP or anyone else. And it works so well.

The songs - not one week moment on there at all. Not one song I would ever skip due to any particular mood. It has to be played thru from start to finish every time - but you'll need over 60 mins to do so!

More thoughts to come - but this has to be considered a classic. Simply put - it is one of the FINEST albums I have heard in my time running this site and has immediately declared itself to be one of my favourite Journey albums EVER.

Well, I'll be! I'll be standing by to pass out the fool's hats come May once it rocks everyone's faces off. Sounds like I better order a few extras. :)

I just listened to Red 13 again....there is a little Eclipse vibe in maybe Walking Away or State Of Grace, but that's it. Eclipse is heavier and more guitars....but importantly, CHORUSES and much much better and catchier songwriting.

Red 13 is experimental, btu Eclipse has a definite purpose.

Right.

I know that the Bickler era Survivor albums Rock almost as much as "Too Hot To Sleep" does, especially the "Caught In The Game" album.

I just mean that "Too Hot To Sleep" Rocks way harder than their previous album "When Seconds Count" does. And I just wondered if it's as big of a difference between "Revelation" and "Eclipse?" I figured that it is.

No, just Arnel. Plenty of harmonies all over. Otherwise it I'd just Arnel blowing his lungs apart.

Hmm, while ordering hats, make sure to order more for some others here who claimed Journey shouldn't be a hard rock band, or heavy, and would never take a hard rock approach, and blah, blah, blah

And a 5 guitared layer of sound? hard to duplicate in concert. Journey has always been a band that releases stuff based on the current limitations of it's lead singer. I have no doubt that SP couldn't sing this album. I'm sure he wouldn't want to either.

Journey has no identity, and hasn't since TBF. And it's sad, really....

You don't want it to be good.

Wrong. To me, this is like going from RATKOS to ELAHE....ROR being ELAHE, and the last 4 albums/EP have been RATKOS.

I wish Journey would get their asses together and realize their legacy. An SP-led Journey with a diminished voice is better than the trash they've been releasing for 10 years....sorry.
