So what happened with Elson? Did he commit to someone else since Journey had a year off or did they just decide to make a change?

No idea. Elson was an integral part of the Journey family for awhile. As for Kalumsky not going on the road....I read that on here. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Yeah, from the late 70s on....and the only crew member that lasted from 98 on.
Thanks, Kalmusky's blogs that I've seen pasted here have been very interesting.

Better late than never I guess. But, Andrew where was this attitude/enforcement 3 or 4 years ago? :P  :P
It was there ...directed at Tito vs JSS in every thread!!

1. That's not true.
2. I was defending Journey, particularly the keyboard/rhythm guitar player. Someone had to. I did Andrew's job.

I think Drew was supposed to interview him at one point, but in the aftermath of Tapegate, Elson bailed.

Don't know what happened to Kevin Elson, but the new guy they have was apparently recommended to them by Allan Parsons.

Kalmusky just went out to the rehearsals before Nevada, to help the guy put the sounds together for the tour. He's definitely not going on the road with them, but from the looks of his site, he IS mixing BOTH of Neal's side projects.

Maybe it's a 24k gold audiophile edition. Yeah, right. We can't even get Live in Manila DVD on Blu-Ray.

You are correct. 7.99 for one song. However, the I-tunes clip is a differnt segment of the song than posted by Drew and it it sounds immense.

The length went from 6:01 to 4:34 on the radio edit. Wonder what they hacked? The sample clip is a different part of the song and features Arnel's vocals prominently.

How interesting! I love Allan Parsons--such beautiful lyrical music.. This might be a really magical year for Journey; I'm so happy for Neal--the man works like a dog and deserves to have a masterpiece on his hands..

P.S. Went to check and make sure I spelled Alan Parson's name right (which I didn't--it's one "l") and saw that he produced albums for Ambrosia and also Al Stewart's Year of the Cat and Time Passages--AS' have that lyrical feel to them, too...

Checked out the Amazon.co.uk sample. How I wish Perry would have been singing on this one... When Arnel goes up he sounds strained, whereas Perry naturally soared like a bird up in those high registers. Arnel just comes across as screaming, big difference in feel there.

I love how fans finally get new Journey music on their hands, and still find contrived ways to dredge up the ghost of Perry. Wanna hear straining? Go check out Perry trying to rock out on TBF.

You're a dumb ass. We'll give you Perry and you can see if soars up like a bird. The guy is 62 years old, now fuck off with your rhetoric, numb nuts.
This is Arnel's music that Arnel is singing. No need to pull Perry into the mix.

I understood the Perryloon line of argument during the Augeri years, when the divorce was still recent, but now it's beyond stupid.

Why is it strange to want to hear Perry sing with Journey again?

Take your pick from the following:

-his voice sounded like absolute shit on anything other than a ballad on TBF.
-he's quit too many times for Journey to show any faith in him.
-he'll never sing the songs a full step down like he would have to live.
-they have a singer that is far more capable of rocking, and that sings far better than renditions than those even Perry did in 1994.

Because a Journey with Perry means a band that doesn't tour or release new music. Not exactly the first thought that springs to my mind when listening to "City of Hope", but to each his own.

Perry sounded great on TBF and while it's true that they would have to do downtune or do different arrangements with him today, it would be real and have credibility, not to mention emotion. Remember when that was a key ingredient with Journey? I'm not talking about the wish-wash muzak of "Like a Rainshower and "After all these Years", but the real deal... Positive Touch, Why Can't This Night Go on Forever, Happy to Give... That was Journey, Perry was an important ingredient for that magic to happen and I think I'm not the only one who misses him.

But I'm glad if you can enjoy the current Walmart/American Idol version of the band and "feel" their new material. It's not working for me at all.

Schon/Cain left to their own devices with no other force to balance it out in the songwriting dept and you're left with Generations/Revelations type stuff. Cain writing lyrics about rainshowers and "all those years"... How can you dig that kind of stuff? :)

The band's creative side died with the dismissal of JSS - when they turned into a bank account.

Yeah ... the guy narrating TSO shows and opening for fake wrestlers sure had a lot to bring to the table creatively. Thanks for the laugh. :)

Yes, I know I'd take WET over Revelation any day of the week. JSS has his own voice. The same way Van Halen ventured into new waters with Hagar, JRNY could have successfully done the same with JSS. Instead they went down the American Idol route and all credibility, soul and emotion went out the window...

WET represents Soto trying as hard as humanly possible to sound like ... Perry. Soto has fronted many nabds and they've all gone the same route ... nowhere. Besides, everyone has conceded that Eclipse will be Arnel's first Journey album where he has contributions. And I'm guessing it will beat WET's total sales of 650.

I think lyrically the band has taken a slight hit without Perry - some of their new material reminds me of Bad English. But that's OK. It still has the Cain/Schon + Journey trademarks all over it. As far as shmaltzy lyrics...at least Cain has Neal to balance him out. Perry left to his own devices offers up hyperglycemic and cringe-inducingly saccharine garbage like "Summer of Love" and "Missing You." Perry may be great coming up with melodies, but as a lyricist he is very weak. How many co-writers did he need on FTLOSM again?
