He lives in Nashville now. Doesn't everyone want to be Porter Wagoner?

I wonder how many of these hits can be attributed to that Salahi whackjob? I'd bet a great number of general web searches on her return Journey/Nashville...which could point directly to this thread.

Ehwmatt wrote:Fightingillini, good call on hearing people who were "worn out" and "had to leave." Unfortunately, it's got nothing to do with loudness. It has everything to do with the muddiness of the mix. Your ears are straining VERY hard to discern the different aspects of the music in the mix. There are no dynamics because there's no separation between the instruments. There's a quasi-technical/scientific term for this phenomenon called "listener (or ear) fatigue." A few people I was with in the Cleveland show experienced the same thing. Check out http://www.turnmeup.org/ for some good articles.

Thanks for the explanation. I couldn't put my finger on why my ears hurt during the show, and I'm certainly not a person who can't handle loud music. Interesting to realize that it's because of the muddiness of the mix. It's annoying as hell, whatever it is.

Ehwmatt wrote:Re: Edge of the Moment. I thought that was a horrific song live (and not much better on the album). At this point, it's obvious Neal just enjoys playing the guitar parts on that song. It's a real dud of a song.

I don't mind it on the album, but it was a complete mess live. Probably partly because you could not discern any of the lyrics, and it wasn't because of Arnel's diction. It was just a bunch of jumbled guitar riffs and words. Complete mess. Why they don't swap it out for something else baffles me.

I, too, appreciate this inf., Matty, I don't believe I've ever experienced this ...
and thanks for the review, fightingilliniJRNY.

We've been hearing about the sound issues pretty much throughout, from various sources, the
question is, are they trying to correct the problem?!? Did the Memphis people notice it?!?
I am much more concerned about this problem than what songs they play and the order in which
they play them.

I find this hard to believe, but I'm starting to wonder if they don't know that it's not coming across well in the venues. Obviously they sound check it, but maybe the key decision-makers on how the sound is mixed (and I'm not talking about the sound guy - he does what the band says) aren't getting the full effect of an entire show performed at these levels.

Again, this is a stretch, but I find it extremely hard to believe they know are oblivious to the professional and fan reviews that are dragging Journey's mix through the mud compared to Night Ranger and Foreigner. But then again, it's Journey... so who the fuck knows what they are thinking.

From reports from friends on the floor and high up in the stands, the sound was great in Memphis.

BB should have the video by now. He called me back and explained how to send it. It's a really short video. I had to scramble and put my phone away after about 30-40 seconds because one of the security guards saw me recording. But there were about 6-10 people fighting. It moved a good 20 feet down the aisle.

Someone's refresh button got stuck?
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Well, I sent it to Behshad, but he said the quality was lost on the transfer so I e-mailed it to him. I'm guessing he'll have it on here tonight. Don't be surprised if it also shows up on Al Jazeera.

Speaking of this, it must be said that EOTM saw pretty much everyone on the floor and in the stands minus the few rows closest to the stage drop like flies. Me and my party were the only ones in the vicinity who remained standing.

Having seen Hansen and Pineda in the same night, I understand now what people meant when they compared them. Arnel is possibly the most physically active frontman they've ever had, and he's charismatic, but he's not commanding. Hansen had a natural confidence about him that screamed leader. I stand by my judgment: Arnel has the pipes, he just needs the polish.
