Steve's great. Fuck off.

knox wrote:Guys, I get it... That there is a strong emotional attachment to Steve A.
But why does that override the obvious fact that his voice is shot?
Sure, you support him no matter what. But what is it that's keeping you from saying "You're right. He just sounds bad these days"?
Heck, I LOVE Perry's voice from the late 70's and early 80's. But I can also admit he has lost it.
I just don't understand this blind, no - DEAF loyalty to Steve A.

because his voice is not shot and he does not sound bad. until you go to a show and can say that his voice is shot, i will continue to disagree with you.
and i'm just curious why everyone is so insistent perry can't sing based on the one time he chose to sing while overcome with the excitement of the world series win parade thing. until he opens his mouth to sing and can't, he just doesn't want to as far as i am concerned.

So, are you saying that EVERY SINGLE Youtube video of Augeri sounding like garbage is in no way indicative of his vocal abilities?
knox wrote:Why would I NOT judge his voice by those videos? I find it hard to believe he sounds better in person, and if he does, maybe it's just the power of positive thinking - WANTING him to sound good because you are there...
Here's a crappy Youtube video. Why does Sara sound so good? And Sonos backing her up?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BALeNuNBzg
I can judge them by this video. Why can't I judge Augeri?
I am not saying he isn't a good guy. Not at all. But his voice is shot. Sorry...

And there isn't even anything wrong with that. It just doesn't allow you to objectively view his performances, that's all.
Regardless of the style of music, the venue, the crowd noise, or the color of his socks - vocal cracks, flat notes, off pitch sections - those don't come across the audio track by mistake.
His vocal problems have nothing to do with anything other than having vocal problems. No matter how you slice it, it is still the same.
Are you going to tell me there are excuses/reasons/ whatever for this performance?

AR wrote:Saw Steve A in Pennsylvania over the summer. Great show and $130 dollars cheaper than Journey. As a rock fan and not an American Idol karaoke anal retentive idiot, I had a blast. Also got to enjoy a better setlist.
Through the amps and in the moment - it was a lot of fun.

Bingo! Sure he didn't sound too great at that impromtu rally thing, but I thought he sounded pretty damn good singing to this reporter on the field at the same series. I think he's still got it, his pipes sounded great at the end there........... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPxX0VwHu-I
Sure, he hasn't been singing publicly for years and is probably rusty, but I think if he wanted to and worked at it he would sound pretty damn good. Besides, put a side that a few of his friends like Lora, Cyndy, Joe Bensen etc have heard more recent stuff from him and like what they heard.....I believe them. I have a pretty good idea of CP's and LB's vocal tastes. Very similiar to my own......especially when it comes to Perry and Martin. So I know they know soulful pipes when they hear 'em. And I would bet good money that he does still sound great on the demos he shared for their ears................as I believe, if he didn't still sound good, they just wouldn't have posted an opinion at all on what they heard.

Talent is talent, no matter how you label it. You can insult American Idol all you want, want Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are the real deal. American Idol was just a venue to get their talent out there.
And if enjoying true vocal talent - regardless of where it comes from - is bad in your eyes... I really don't care.
One thing those shows do, whether you like it or not, is showcase pure vocal ability. No tricks. They can either sing or they can't.

Looking forward to hearing Photograph live two weeks from Saturday ... expect SA's band to be like all the rest at Firefest ... live, loud, and rockin' the joint. That's the whole point; fuck perfection.

American Idol is the feminization of rock music. It's also a lame fake version of Star Search, where they at least showcase BANDS not karaoke crooners.

This is NOT personal. I have nothing against Steve. I just have a problem with blind followers of ANYTHING, denying problems when they are clearly on display.
For all I know, the guy could sound GREAT right now. I just have too many vids at my disposal proving the opposite.
