In my opinion, Journey's biggest mistake was getting rid of Steve Smith & Ross Valory back in 1985/86.
Another big Journey mistake was not playing Live Aid in 1985. They should have been because most of the big acts were except Van Halen.

Perhaps they should have shaken the melodic rock world and replaced him in '84 when there were feelings that the J machine was coming apart. Replace him in '84 with Mickey Thomas, and J may have never gone away?
