....to allow more time with his family and to concentrate on JOURNEY.

Deen will be replaced with Virgil Donati (Planet X, Steve Vai) .

Yes, that was very sad news, wasn't it? Deen was perfect for that band. Now what does anyone know about this Virgil guy? I am not familiar with his work.

Virgil Donati

One of today’s hottest drummers, Virgil Donati has been scoring critical accolades at clinics and major festivals around the world. He has already left audiences at the Modern Drummer Festival and the Montreal DrumFest stunned with his intensely developed and awe inspiring playing. Currently carving out a session career in Los Angeles, where he is recording and making major appearances with new Sony Recording star Tina Arena, Virgil can also be heard in full flight with many of Los Angeles’ leading players, including the stellar instrumental unit Tribal Tech.

Side guy until now  except for working with Steve Vai.. but look at these videos  the guy is a monster!

Deen might the right decision, and I am happy he is no longer a member of the doomed SoulSirkus. Plus, now not as many Journey fans will be at the concert to annoy the other SoulSirkus fans.

Not to take anything away from Deen, but I don't see how Neal does it. Deen a younger man by far can't keep up with Neal. GO Neal, and get well Dean-ERIC

Well.....not for nothin' but Neal has been thru a few divorces. Maybe all this really DOES wear on the personal/family life! Smart move Dean!

I personally don't care for the album - at this point - and I don't see them becoming popular or anthing...but I wish them the best of luck. To so quickly replace a band member shows their seriousness.

Just thought it was a strong statement, that's all!

I've listened to snipits of the cd and thought it sounded good. It is not something that I would buy because I would not listen to it enough to justify the purchase.

Joe's whole paragraph struck me as odd...first it's doomed and then it was Journey vs Soul Sirkus. What exactly is his point?

Firstly, Deen has recognized he has a health issue and has kindly stepped aside so as to not impinge on the SoulSirkus band from reaching their full potential.
He didn't want to put the guys on hold for an unknown amount of time, especially not when they have a new album out and should be touring behind it and attempting to solidify a fanbase
Can we say the same thing about Perry and his less than selfless handling of the then newly released TBF back in 1996?

2) Also, Perry's problems weren't just the hip back in 1996. It's wasn't an abrupt, spontaneous thing with him. One could say he's had a habitual "hip problem" or some form of health problem of one variety or another dating as far back around the tail-end of the Frontiers tour (some would say earlier) when he first started having mixed feelings about continuing with Journey.

Oh, yeah, Dean quiting and allowing the band to move on is so completely like Perry during TBF.

Actually, Soul Sirkus is a 'side project'. So, I guess it is more like when Perry was involved in that Journey side project....

Oh, yeah, that's right. Steve Perry has NEVER been a member of ANY side projects of Journey - EVER. That is just so comparable to Deen being involved in almost every Neal project since Bad English.

I'm glad to see Deen making the decision to respect his family and main band.

Soul SirkUS is OK...nothing to get too excited about...Hardline & Bad English were/are much better...

Neal is determined to ROCK, isn't he?

My copy of Soul Sirkus, with Deen, came in the other day, and it Rocks. First track is fantastic. CD reminds somewhat of Hardline. Hate to see Deen out of this. But I would rather have him in JRNY than SS-ERIC

The first track sounds like Hardline...but the CD overall has several different 'feels' to it. I hear Journey, I hear Hardline, I hear Sammy, and I hear SOUL SIRKUS!!
