I think he is a perfectionist, and even though his voice is still superior than most, to him it is just not acceptable to get on stage and not sound the way he used to.

Make no mistake, I think his voice is still good.
I think he can probably still impress people with his voice night after night.
I just don't think its up to par for his own personal high demanding stanards.

Then, there it will be, for full scrutiny....yes or no.
If you want to hear him on his most recent guest vocal, listen to Jeff Golub's song "Can't Let You Go", from his Aug. 2003 release, "Soul Sessions".
IMO his "old school Steve chorus" harmonies are as good as anything from the "Escape" era.
Of course, he is singing in parts throughout the song.....it's Jeff's instrumental.
Just so you know....gotta make that "crystal clear"

I agree wholeheartedly...I don't think, but then again I don't know either, but can Perry sing "like he used to?" Two part question, because Escape was different than Frontiers, and Frontiers was different than ROR and TBF....Can Perry sing an Escape show? No. Can he sing a TBF set? Probably. We should have cornered him, rolled him and threatened him at the Walk of Fame for answers! Ok, forget the muscle tecnique..People, we might never get the chance to ask him again!
