I've seen some talk about the upcoming Journey CD here, but I've seen little press about it. All I've seen is that it's coming sometime this spring and will be a new direction for Journey.

Anybody have more details on this?

According to Neal there is a new direction for Journey. That is most likely heavily influenced by Steve's writing contributions as Neal said Steve has been doing a LOT of writing for this one. The band said they were entering the studion the beginning of March for a week or so of rehearsals. Then they would beginning recording 'live', ie: all playing together. Neal has recently stated that they will be recording at the Plant and using analog tape for a warmer sound. it was previouslu announced that there will be two producers: Kevin Elson for vocals and Mike Fraser for the rest. The CD should be ready by the beginning of the tour where the CD will be included in the cost of the ticket. So every person who goes to a show will get a CD.

Is this something new or have I been under a rock?

That's so great that Steve Perry FINALLY is coming back and recording with Journey. Arnel would have been a HUGE mistake. When I saw this news on VH1 Classic I was ecstatic!!!!!!!!!!!

And giving away the CD like they did on Generations is still a good idea. If there is a hit single it will be through iTunes.

I just knew there was a plan in order after the final Sopranos episode!

They knew what was best after all!!!!!! :)

Oh, man.... how I hate those "Symphonic" CD's.... :P I remember "Symphonic YES", and it had a negative effect on my auditory senses. 2nd on the list are quickie tribute CD's... Not all of them, but the cheapies that just butcher the original tunes...

They are hit or miss. With Yes, they are so technically great that a symphony doesn't add to it.

I liked the Kiss Symphony disc if only because they put the entire symphony in makeup and played the rare gem "Great Expectations.

The Moody Blues success with their symphonic show at Red Rocks in the early 90's spawned it all.

Maybe Journey will break out "Winds of March" on this one?

You know what's so funny? I haven't popped in a tribute CD of any kind for a few years, until after I posted this. I was looking for a CD I haven't listened to in a while to jam to while I worked out, and total coincidence -- sitting there was a pile of CDs a friend just gave me a week ago. In it was a KISS tribute CD called "Spin The Bottle -- an All-Star Tribute to KISS", so I popped it in -- some of it is not bad! Killer version of "Detroit Rock City" w/Dee Snider on vox and Doug Aldrich on axe! It has a making-of DVD with it, and I'll have to watch it.
