The Essential Journey went Gold (500,000) and Platinum (1,000,000) on the same day - 2/5/05.

I believe the date listed was just the last time the chart was updated. And I think the info is to show each level the CD has sold.

While trying to find out more about this I came across some more info I found interesting. "Multi-disc sets" such as Essential Journey need to meet the following requirements:

"Multi-Disc Set
Quantity:
Gold: 500,000 units. Package must include two or more Cds (or its tape and album equivalent.)
Quantity:
Platinum: One million units. Package must include two or more CDs ( or its tape and album equivalent.)
Quantity:
Multi-Platinum: Two million units. Package must include two or more Cds (or its tape and album equivalent.)

Requirements:
*Each unit within set counts as one unit toward certification.

*Minimum running time 100 minutes.
Requirements:
*Each unit within set counts as one unit toward certification.

*Minimum running time 100 minutes."

When you apply that, it means that Essential Journey only needed to sell 500,000 units to acheive Platinum Certification. I never knew that.


Also, I saw that music video longform only takes 100,000 units to be called "Platinum".

Yep, that looks right to me.

So a 10 disc box set only needs to sell 100,000 units to qualify. When you consider the increase in price, it makes sense.

This original post, and the one by PF, were designed to say Essential Journey sold over 500,000 copies shortly after the HWOF appearance. But in reality, the sales figures were simply updated after the appearance. And in the time between updates, which was several years, EJ sold another 500,000 copies. That is cool...but it had nothing to do with the HWOF appearance.
