The Essential Journey went Gold (500,000) and Platinum (1,000,000) on the same day - 2/5/05.
Nice what an appearance will do.

"Multi-Disc Set
Quantity:
Gold: 500,000 units. Package must include two or more Cds (or its tape and album equivalent.)
Quantity:
Platinum: One million units. Package must include two or more CDs ( or its tape and album equivalent.)

When you apply that, it means that Essential Journey only needed to sell 500,000 units to acheive Platinum Certification. I never knew that.
Also, I saw that music video longform only takes 100,000 units to be called "Platinum".

So a 10 disc box set only needs to sell 100,000 units to qualify. When you consider the increase in price, it makes sense.

You mean an appearance by THE VOICEright, PlayItLoudForMe?
I think it was Tickner's showing up that shifted those hundreds of thousands of copies overningt.
