NEW JOURNEY TITLE

Postby Abitaman » Sat Mar 26, 2005 7:07 am

There is 3 titles that are up for grab (right now anyway) on the new Journey cd. Wonder which was everyones favorite and why?

Mine is Freedom, because, from my Understanding that was to be the title of ROR, before things went sour! Plus, it means more now, Freedom from, Columbia, Perry, and having to follow other peoples whim, now control to do has they see fit.

I DEFINATELY think it should be Freedom. Arrival was set to be an originaly title as was Freedom. They have used one! But the idea that Journey has the freedom to do what they want is HUGE! "Return" would sound like a step back. "Move" just doesn't have the right ring to it...although I like the connotations of it.

I like "Move". The title is reminiscent of one of Augeri's early works, the Tyketo album, "Shine" , and since, after all, Augeri is having a great degree of control on this album, I think the title should reflect some of his sensibilities (if that makes any sense).
"Move" also reminds me of the Journey title, "Next".
I really just think "Move" sounds hip and is devoid from any possible George W. / pro-Americana mis-interpretations that using the title, "Freedom" could bring about in our current post-9/11 political climate.
With that being said, "Freedom" still remains my second choice.

I am cool with either Freedom or Move. Out of the three, "Return" is the only one I really just don't care for.

Actually, accroding to Herbie Herbert (can't remember the interview), ROR was going to be called, Liberty.

The title track (if statement is true), appears on Time 3.

I think that would still be a decent name. (Wouldn't mind a remake of the song w/ current line-up!)

Freedom works for me. It's simple, to the point and has a nice ring to it; like most other Journey titles. Move and Return don't grab me too much.

That would be the "Castles Burning" interview, where Herbie rips everybody a new ass, and talks about his titles plan.

Now, in regard to the new title. I think Freedom is wrong, for two reasons. 1) The majority of people will think it has to do with Freedom, as in USA, Red white and blue, blah blah blah. 2) Also people will never get the link between Sony cotrol and their musical freedom..

Of the list given, I like Return. Look, many people think because perry is all but dead and gone, so too is Journey. They should use his departure as a plus, and advertise with some balls....We are back, ready to rock, and yes, are band has never been better.

Close, but no.
You're confused. ROR was set to be titled, "Freedom", as the last poster already stated. Herbie says so in the interview that Deano mentioned, which can be found here at http://members.cox.net/mrcarty/

While there is def. a song named "Liberty" on Time3, I have never read anywhere that it was intended to be a title track. In fact, I have never heard "Liberty" bandied about as a potential album title by anyone including Herbie.

RETURN has a nice ring to it....a good follow up title to Arrival, IMO. Journey's triumphant "return" to their roots, as a true ROCK band!

Well color me red!

I could've sworn it was Liberty ! My brain must've merged the interview & the Time 3 song!

Still like Freedom better than Return . First you arrive, then you return?

That almost sounds like they're going away again!

How about some kind of Phoenix theme; rising from the ashes.

Some variation of Rebirth or Renaissance.

Just a thought.

Freedom..I'm telling you people will think the Band is selling out, using the "USA" and the sick attacks for sales..even though people with a brain know Journey isn't doing that. Remember when Schon was doing the Star Spangled Banner, and people(not really hardcore Journey fans), were saying, "Journey are sell outs, man..that guitar dude is playin' that red, white and blue song thing too much." You know, some red state moron with a second grade edumacation...Ok ok so I shouldn't use a red state phrase, but I don't care, I am brutally honest, and the red states are the dumb ones...

Deano, I see your point. I think it will depend on the artwork as to how it is viewed. I still think that of the 3 choices, Freedom is the best. But I did like NC points as well.

I see your point Deano, but I personally don't think one can play The Star Spangled Banner too many times. If you don't like America, nobody is forcing you to stay. What the hell are we coming to if our citizens are criticizing THAT?

Lest we not forget that this is probably one of the last countries left where you can criticize such things and not get your head cut off.

If you feel the need to make Vicodin influenced posts, there's a place to do it.

Hey Yak, try reading lessons, dude. I NEVER said I didn't like hearing it. I loved hearing it, and would never tire of it. People were posting saying they thought is was cheap, blah blah blah. Screw you. I am from Canada and have dual citizenship. I love America. You piss me off. Again, try reading my post again.

By the way, Yak, I wasn't "doing Vicodin" for recreational purposes..I was in a fucking train crash where 11 people lost their lives, and I was operating one of the trains, and must live with this for the rest of my life!

Also, I would like to point out to you too, Yak, that I fought in Desert Shield/Storm for Canada AND the USA. So, don't give me any shit. Loser.

If they want the c.d. to sell they should call it

Endurance

..That way, if the music sucks, at least the name will give it some class. It will show that they are trying to endure without Perry. I say "trying" that is.

Juxtaposed to your fallen idol who has relinquished any semblance of a professional career all together, preferring a sedentary life of sitting on his duff all day, growing fat & counting his royalty checks, right?

Perry hasn't toured with the band for more than a decade and a half.
Why don't you go on the official AC/DC message board and complain that you want Bon Scott back, too?
Bitching that you miss Perry is tantamount to the exact same thing.

Musically speaking, the man is dead.

Move on and leave fans of the current lineup alone. Malicious wanker.

Funny you should use the word class. Journey has always been about class. Steve Perry has never exuded any class..from firing bass players and drummers, to jettisoning managers, to faking injuries...He is classless.

Now, "Endurance" is not a bad album title. However, I see nothing in that word where fans will correlate a perry reference. Journey HAS to promote their "new" singer, and the best way to do that is to release a "valid single." I know for a fact if perry sang "Higher Place" it would have charted..and that is no shot at Augeri. In fact I love the way Augeri sang that song. It's so damned hard to "get a song out there" anymore because you have to be black(Usher, other rappers), be a black female(American Kareoke), be a hot white chick(Spears), or have a catchy bebop song(Hey Ya). Journey is commonly laughed at when talked about in social circles, yet spoken in serious rock n roll groups, given a lot of respect. The problem is now Classic rock(or Arena rock), is hardly ever heard..it is pop pop pop.....

The Title should be anything the Band wants. Has Journey ever put out a cd where you didn't know whether you would buy it or not? Everytime they put one out, I KNEW it was quality.

Umm, why on earth is someone who claims to have ZERO interest whatsoever in the current lineup, hanging about on their very website? I recall you vituperating the Augeri-enamored Yak when he admitted going to a few Steve Perry-themed fan sites, yet here you are, once again, culpable of doing the very same action of which you ruthlessly condemn everyone else else for. If you no longer like Journey, PF, then why are you on their website?

Awwwwww Deano. Nobody speaks ill of Classic Journey. It's on the radio all the time and has tribute bands honoring them. It's the soundtrack of peoples lives. I helped steam up a few car windows with Journey in the background.

It's their new music that is not the least bit inspirational. Why are you all lying to yourselves? Augeri never stood a chanch with Arrivals lyrics and Red 13 is just plain bad. He may be entertaining singing the songs that Journey with Perry made famous but where's the pride in that.

In my opinion, Classic Rock came and went and all we have are the memories and that great music. I think that Perry knew it was moving on and tried to get Journey to move with it and did great with ROR and TBF was a change also. It seems that what most of you dislike about both albums is the changes to adapt to the times. Just my opinion.

Odd then how you so despise "Red 13" when considering that WAFTE & The Time are the two most contemporary and up-to-date sounding tracks Journey has put out in ages. The Time could play on any modern rock station today and not sound incongruous with other played modern rock singles. Personally, HOTS, I think you are hell-bent on moaning and bitching about current Journey's musical output regardless of what it actually sounds like. In fact, mark my words, I guarantee everyone here, that if the new Journey cd does sound modern, you will NOT commend the band for it, in fact, you will go out of your way to do just the opposite.

heardonthestreet wrote:It seems that what most of you dislike about both albums (ROR & TBF) is the changes to adapt to the times. Just my opinion.

People may dislike ROR & Trial by Fire for a plethora of reasons, however, sounding "cutting edge" or "ahead of their time", is most certainly not one of them.
