Highlights of the interview.....

Interviewer: I read on the Internet that the Main Event lost a lot of money and that you didn’t do that well. I went to see the show in Kansas City and there were a ton of people there.

Neal: No, we were doing good. The people that are on the Internet that were talking how there was nobody there are pro-Perry fans and they hate me because they think it is my fault that he is not here.

On the subject of the new JRNY record...

Interviewer: You also mentioned a new Journey record. Some people call Journey pop but the Journey I love is really good hard rock.

Neal: The new Journey record people are really going to be blown away with. It is rocking hard. Honest to God, it is somewhere between what we used to have with a lot of hooks and what Red 13 was only with excellent, excellent sound. I mean, there is really some jamming on this record.

Another highlight, this one regarding Perry's appearance at the WOF...

Neal: Yeah he showed. I was happy that [Perry] showed.

Interviewer: Yeah, I think everyone was. Hey you know what else is cool Neal? The world didn’t go nuts with rumors.

Neal: There was a few afterwards but you know I think the fire was quickly put out.

Interviewer: I get sick of hearing that shit.

Neal: The world now knows that Steve Perry is welcome to come and sing with us anytime he wants. It doesn’t mean that anyone else is going to go that’s in the band but he is welcome to come and sit in. I invited him in front of TV. Entertainment Tonight was on both of us interviewing Perry and myself and I asked him if he was going to come play with us that night at the House of Blues and he said “Well you never know.” It didn’t happen so we never will know unless he shows. I also asked him if he wanted to come sit in with us this summer. A lot of former members are welcome to come in and sit on a tune or two.

Interviewer: I like the way you’ve opened the door and left it in his camp.

Neal: There has been the biggest black cloud following me around. People on the internet like to believe that it’s all my fault that Steve is not here. The truth of reality is that he has always had an open door and he doesn’t choose to do this anymore. So, of course, I have got to be the fall guy because it’s got to be Neal because he’s a trouble maker. I mean that is the honest to God’s truth, the door has always been open but I think he is really retired.

Very good read, and Neal states very well about rumors that pro-Perry people are starting. Perry is not in the group so they are mad and saying bad things, to make everyone think the new Journey stinks. The New Journey is alive and well.
Also Neal states that he thinks Perry has retired, and does not want to sing anymore. Something that has been stated over and over on this site. Thanks for the link-ERIC

Journey is just one of many bands that have the fans squabbling over the replacement of, for whatever reason, a popular frontman, especially if that voice had so much to do with the success of the band.

The fact that when Journey decided to move on, they told Perry he was being replaced and Perry stated that "There was no going back,"should make it quite clear that quest appearences are not to be considered, imo. We all know that an advertised quest appearence by Perry would fill a stadium.Why would Perry do this for a band whose members have run him down, especially Neal, in countless interviews and you fans here on this forum who speak so badly of him.

I wish that these geezers could have found other projects way back when and left THE Journey, that the majority of the fans love,intact, to really SHINE from time to time as I'm sure it would have with it's Super Stars and we all know who they were.........This is just my opinion so just read it if you want and leave it alone.

Boy, that sure sounds pretty, but, it doesn't really make a whole lotta sense.
How would the original Journey group have shined from time to time when their lead singer is permanently retired?

You are right, the guys could have left Journey alone, however, that would be it. Kaput. The end. It would not have shined on occasion, it would simply remain stagnant forever.

Ross and Smitty were fired and yet they came back. Dunbar and Fleishman were both unceremoniously fired and the band moved on and yet they managed to show up for a guest appearance or two this year.

It is he (and his ego) and NO ONE ELSE, which is preventing him from singing with the current band or singing anywhere, really.

Jon and Neal might've made the call to say "we're done waiting over a decade for your ass" but they are most certainly not in control of the man's vocal chords.
Perry doesn't currenty sing with the band or any band, because he chooses not to.

Your sole purpose for being here (and probably for living) is to do what you think is Perry's bidding. You bash this lineup because Perry does not approve and feel that, by preventing any talk of the new lineup, you are contributing in ur own small way, towards the destruction of the very band, itself and to the completion of Perry's desires.

Hell, I'd be willing to wager that you brainwashed-zealots would even go so far as to Kill in Perry's name. All he'd have to do is give the order on FanAsylum and you would turn off the soaps, put down the bon-bons and be gone in heartbeat (with butcher cleaver firmly in hand).

Well, I don't know why he would do it, (and I DON'T agree with your statement about band members) , but I can sure as the day is long tell you why he WON'T!

Think about it....Perry guests on stage...the venue sells out...He is a major hit...Then comes the talk and the questions, asking...and then begging ....for him to DO something. He obviously doesn't want to do anything, and already has enough trouble dodging desperate housewives, so he isn't going to put himself in a position where he has fans clamoring for his ass. See, Hottsie?

If Journey had gone on another decade hiatus, they would still be waiting, because Perry likes seeing people twist in the wind. (It's called "control")

They do, they have, they will...but they also love Journey. So do the FANS of Journey. So why WOULDN'T they continue to do something they love, for the fans that love their music?

Your implication is that something has happened to the music the Journey of your memories created. Not so. The Journey that "you" (not necessarily the majority) love still exists on your CDs and in your memories. NOTHING can change that.

As posted by others, if Journey were to have waited for Perry, they would still be waiting. Perry's actions seem to be proof of that.
Plus, I wonder why Perry can STILL be considered such a "Super Star" (the implication of your post) while the other members of the band that are still working (in and out of Journey) are put into past tense? You used the plural form of the words so I see you are not just speaking of Perry. 3 of the remaining 4 members of "your" Journey ( unless you are speaking of the ROR version, which would then equal BOTH of the remaining members of "your" Journey) are still IN Journey. And if that means they are no longer "Super Stars" in your mind, then you should NOT have used the plural form.

Spooked is not the term I would use. He is aware of what is going on. He has been taking the abuse for almost EIGHT years. He has not handled it well in the past, but he is handling it well now. My theory is that Neal has finally let it all go. THAT is why Neal is handling the situations andPerry-subjects better. IMO

I am not scared by any of this. I doubt Andrew is either. And I do not think 'sickness' is the right word either. "Over-zealous" maybe. "Blinded", certainly. But these people are not "sick".

I DO think this statement is way over the line. Would you REALLY wager that? I would take the bet. And I think I would win. These people are NOT killers. This is a message board, nothing else. They may seem delusional to "us", they certainly seem passionate to me. They may seem uneducated in the facts to "us", but they feel the exact smae way about "us". It is wrong to think what "they" are doing is really all that different than "us".

See, you didn't need that first part to make your point. And I agree that it befuddles me to see the way some Perry-only fans continue to 'fight'. However, you will notice that the numbers have dwindled severely! I remember the Perry Board at VH1 (where all these Perry-only fans used to post) and there were MANY more posters who shared their passion and beliefs.

While NC does need to calm down at times, you are mistaken that it is a current line-up supporter of Styx or VH (or any of the other bands) that would cause the strife. I have seen it for years. It is the fans that cannot accept the replacement of their beloved band member, who cause the dissention. True that "band" supporters do not respond well in all cases, but the origin was with a fan who could not move on WITH the BAND. What is interesting is STILL the fact that Perry-only fans seems to have more endurance than the DDY or DLR fans.
