Keeping in mind the trouble Journey had when songs from Arrival hit the internet before it was even released, I have to wonder what they are thinking with the plans they have for distributing the new CD only at their shows. You have to figure the songs will once again be on the internet before eager fans will get to attend the concert, and those fans will more than likely download the songs well before the concert, or worse (for Journey), instead of attending the concert. It seems to me that the way they are distributing it promotes illegal distribution by not making the CD available for purchase immediately. Do I have my facts wrong? I look forward to everyone's thoughts on this.

Why won't Journey sell the Cds in stores? Why are they trying to alienate traditional distributors? Journey should also make sure that the classic rock stations play their material from the new Cd.

Not everyone that likes Journey can attend their concerts.

Prince did not release his CD "Musicology" until most of the way through the tour.

I would imagine the idea is for the fans to want to go to the concert to see Journey AND to get a CD. I am sure the music will end up on the internet, and that will be too bad. But I also think the CD may be available for sale at Journeyswag for the real fans. It will be the casual fans that will be downloading the music and probably not buying the material. Those fans don't think about the band and how it will affect them.

If I cannot buy "Generations" before the tour hits Denver, then I will probably look for the music online as well. But I will still buy the CD/go to the tour.

I would like to see the band offer the CD for sale at Journeyswag...both hard copy AND download. That might cut back on the downloading 'illegally'.

Not exactly. It is INCLUDED in the price..it really is being sold.. I know you are worried this album may actually be good, and if it is good without a certain somebody, what are ya goin to do??? Jump off a bridge?

And Troll, don't concern yourself if the CD is being sold or not...you aren't going to buy it anyway. If you are concerned people will download it and listen before the live gig, don't be. if the music is good, and it will be, then people will want to go to the shows...get it? They aren't going to do some stupid ipod commercial every other hour in a shameless promo...

Thank you very much HeardontheStreet. Will people be able to buy the new Journey CD at normal record stores in the USA? I just want to be able to buy my CD at any store instead of at some obscure website.

You're right. Journey isn't popular enough to be in an Ipod commercial. However, Steve Perry's voice and the song Don't Stop Believin' were used in an automobile commercial. I think Steve Augeri was working at the Gap during the commerical shoot.

I'm asking about how and where Journey is going to sell their new CD. Why do you keep mentioning the more popular band compared to Journey? If Journey was asked to be in a commercial, then they would be. Maybe Journey will be seen promoting a Casino real soon. :lol:

I wish that Journey would perform at our towns football field as The Beach Boys did, back in the late 70's. I didn't have to buy a ticket because you could hear them all over town. It was great!.

I have always maintained that out of the 15 tracks or so on "Arrival", there are maybe 9 that I really like.
The rest is maudlin re-heated soporific uninspired balladry of the TBF variety. Some noteworthy, but mostly passable (though admittedly I do have an inexplicable soft spot for the gushingly sentimental "I'm not that Way").
I have similar objections with TBF & ROR, as well.
As I said before, my opinions are predicated on the music I hear, not on devout unconditional fanaticism.

I have consistently provided an honest opinion on whatever Journey does. That's what real fans do. I thought the CBS morning show sucked so I said that.
I thought their '02 Allentown concert was akin to a spiritual experience so I said that.
I critique each of their musical endeavors on their own respective merits.
I don't feel indebted to extenuate this band's actions in any way (like how you do for every single one of Perry's failings).

If the new album rocks, I will say so.
If it sucks, I will say so.
If it's middle-of-the-road, I will say that, too.

When it comes to your opinion involving the current lineup, everyone here already knows fully well what to expect.

I wish the CD was being released before the tour. That way, radio stations and other could listen to the CDS and maybe generate some interest in Journey's tour.

Or download it beforehand, which every Journey fan will want to do instead of wait for it. I want to buy it, but not if I have to buy a concert ticket to get it. I think it's nice to give ticketholders a CD, but I guess Journey figures they will make more money having eager fans pay $75 and up for a concert ticket/CD instead of $14.99 for just a CD. We will see if this strategy works.

Hey HOTS, it is unlikely that it will be the picture in my sig...although, personally, I would love that.

I have heard a little about the artwork but as far as I can tell, nothing has been decided on yet. I do know that Prarie Prince had been involved with the artwork, but some posts on BT lead me to believe that it is not definite his work is being used.

I think it would be great if the band would put their picture on the cover...just to get away from the scarab. I love the scarab, but this is a new Journey so I would like to see something new on the cover. Keep a good Journey logo, probably involving the infinty symbol, but change up the look of the CD.

I did not like the TBF and GHL covers but they were different. I didn't like the Frontiers cover, that should still have been scarab based. I LOVE the ROR cover but was disappointed at that time that there was no scarab. But the title did not fit a scarab to me. I feel the same way about "Generations". I know they could do something with the scarab, but I don't think they should.

Sounds right, but hopefully the CD will be available at journeyswag near the beginning of the tour. The worldwide release should be in the stores.

It is doubtful that radio will really embrace a new Journey CD anyway. But remember years ago when touring was advertising for the music? Audiences would then ask radio to play what they heard in concert. Maybe that will happen again.

I would like the scarab to stick around. They used it for Arrival, and it is their symbol. I think a picture of the band on the cover is not the way to go. Something creative with the scarab gets my vote.

Anyone know the history of the scarab? How did Journey begin using it?

I think it is more likely the idea that A)MORE people might come to the shows since this is the way to get the CD; or B)Journey figures MORE people will actually give their new CD a chance because it was "given" to them. Both seem pretty accurate. Diehards will still buy the CD, no matter what. And casual fans might prefer the idea of getting it for 'free'.

The biggest obstacle will be the casual fans who download the music and not worry about buying the CD.
