Perry in Concert

I am in the middle of downloading a Journey Concert from Budakon in 1983(entire show on video). Cool too.

Anyway, Perry does something I think is pretty smart if not essential. As he moves across the stage, he doesn't walk normally(bounce); you can see him "drag his feet" very emphatically.... looks kind of strange, but my thinking is if he is singing, and "bouncing" his words voice would also bounce too, right? Any singers here can chime in on this..

When I get done with the d-load, you all can email and I can try to send it to you. I have a cable connection and it is supposed to take 3 more hours...

I think I just got that same video...haven't watched it yet.
As for your observation...makes sense to me. He always dragged his feet, but I am not sure of the 'real' reason.

Okay.

Well, I've never done a huge "Journey-style" concert (yet 8) ), but I can chime in here with what I DO know:

I've done a lot of regional musical theater, and let me tell you, trying to do a complicated dance routine - and THEN stop to "sing perfectly" - IS IMPOSS|BLE!

Which is what makes me LMAO at Ms. Spears & Co.....um, HELLO?! Can you say "lip synching"?!

So back on track here.....yes, you may be on to something.....he conserved a lot of energy and kept his voice "steady" with the foot drag thing, IMO.

No no no.. If you see him, it's kind of like a real tender downstep, and a definte slide.

Thanks Nora, I was hoping you would pop in.. :D

THIS DID NOT start the hip injury. Put the keyboards down girls..no need to get your panties all wadded up......

I've got that concert too - very good show!
With the foot dragging thing, I've seen Mick Jagger and Michael Hutchence of INXS do it - I seem to remember seeing Jim Morrison do it on video too. Must be a rock-singer thing..... :)

It makes total sense to me.....I can't even walk up a hill and talk on my cell phone without my voice blipping in pitch involuntarily...(which happened on the way to Whitesnake last night) I'm a pro singer and I think any bouncing on stage would definitely screw you up, which yeah is the reason people like Madonna, Britney and JLO are doing all that lipsynching, well other than the fact that they suck anyway.

Ok; hold the phone.....um, I just remembered something today regarding MAJOR physicality AND singing well.

Any "Who" fans out there?? Tell me if you remember this one:

Way back in the day, The Who were on HBO from Canada.....I had a "total-recall" thing today.....I had a flash of Roger Daltry RUNNING IN PLACE and singing "Who Are You?"

If I remember correctly, this was halfway thru the song; he was only singing, "Who are you?" and "I really wanna know"

But he pulled it off!

Well, those aren't exactly the toughest words to sing. Try singing non chorus lines say from Escape, a 6+ mimute song, and the vocal prowess of Perry is a Hell of a lot better than Daltrey..
