His voice is still magic.........

Has anyone heard Perry on Pack's new album yet? Someone posted that they had and that he sounded great. Magic was the word.

Andrew, have you heard it where you are?

First, thank you HOTS for finally posting a thread about Perry! ;)

2nd, I haven't heard the song yet but I am sure Perry's vocals (most likely background but that's OK) will be warm and soothing, comforting, like an old friend!

NIG, I am watching the video you sent me, FTLOSM..It is odd... Perry doesn't try once, to hit a high sustained note...This was what, 1992ish?? Hi was clearly on the downside...

I love the guy, and will always love him....I wish Pack would throw a sample on his site.. Because of Perry's involvement, Pack may sell many more units..

Yeah, you're right. I think it was 1994, though. Let me know when you watch the part with the jacket...

I wonder how someone knows if the "voice is still magic" or not, without hearing it in at least 9 years? Hmm.

However, Nealisgod, I just watched the jacket scene...Perry can flatout entertain..that's for sure.. The Journey songs get much more crowd involvement than his personal solo ones, but..........good video.

Perhaps this should be a different thread but..Perry's version and skill on Anyway You Want It is awesome! Perry might not be able to hit the high notes anylonger, BUT, you can tell his voice is SO much stronger than Augeris.'

There is a glowing difference though.. The musicians that back Perry are so very inferior than the Journey dudes... all of them...playing and singing!

Are you talking about Perry's sidemen from Journey Deano? Nobody has even heard of them for the most part. Their fame is background for the Steve Perry Years of Journey. Without his voice and the songs HE, with his voice made famous, they would disappear. They depend on it now. jmho.

Yeah, Neal Schon, Jon Cain, Ross Valory, Steve Smith, Greg Rolie... they were all just hacks. Steve Perry wrote every song and told them how to play them. Thanks for enlightening us, HOTS.

Well, now you've blown it! Using a Perry positive thread to BASH the members of Journey...TSK TSK

No bashing here, just the facts man, just the facts. I never said that he did it alone. He trained some great sidemen. Too bad that they forgot everything that he taught them. Even Rolie stated that Perry taught them how to play to a singer and look what you got now? A run-away guitar, imo.

Actually it hasn't been 9 years, since we fans have heard from Steve Perry. He did the song "Can't Let You Go" with Jeff Golub & Steve's voice sounded absolutely incredible to me!!! :D

I'm GREATLY looking forward to buying the David Pack cd!

HOTS, "he trained some great sidemen"? Even Steve Perry himself would say that's a very unintelligent statement.

Perry only worked with the best. Has high standards. That goes for anyone he sings with past present, future.

Okay, I for one am NOT sitting this one out. No f-ing way. If Andrew bans me, he bans me.

HOTS, you have the sorriest, shit-laden life I have ever seen. The thread started out okay, and we responded nicely and intelligently. I made the point of Perry's sol tour, and his other musicians clearly not being up to the quality of Journey. O boy, here cometh the shit, that hitteth the fan..And YOU threw it!

Hey, lady, do you have that FTLOSM show from NYC? Do yourself a favour. Go put it in and watch it. Tell me those guys are as good as Schon, Cain and Deeno...You simply can't. You are so full of shit, your eyes are tearing brown. You have an agenda, and it's a stupid one at that. I notice when you post a thread, that all your little hacks join in on the fun. Hey Andrew can do what he wants with this shit, but if he has half a brain, he will allow me to respond in kind. "Sidemen." What the FUCK is that?!! Neal Schon is a sideman? Kiss my ass HOTS. Jon Cain, a sideman? Hey without that guy, AND Neal Schon, Journey NEVER makes it as big as they did....You know, you are ridiculous..flatout ridiculous. You haven't a fucking brain, and your words are Pure insults to a proud bunch of guys, who are extremely professional, and are carrying the band on....A runaway guitar?? Again, kiss my ass. There are others on here who won't say it publicly, but they would say the same thing. Go to Hell BITCH!

Oh another Einsteinian quote. He sang BACKUP for HALF a minute. Hardly lead singer quality. And it was done in a studio where Ashley Simpson can sound good. I am not saying Perry cannot sing..never say that, but your comment is on a level rivaling only HOTS..way down there..

You sure do blow up easily Deano! The only thing I said was that it hadn't been 9 years. I POLITELY reminded you about the song "Can't Let You Go" & gave my OWN positive opinion on his vocals, so CALM DOWN!!!

Sad, you can't even sustain a feigned guise of objectivity for more than a few seconds.
One comment into your thread and you are already showing your true agenda.
Exalt Perry and in the process, spat upon and discount everyone else involved in Journey's history.
How transparent.

Cain and Schon co-wrote 3/4 of all the songs.
They are co-owners of the Journey catalog and can do as they see fit.
No amount of bitching, sniveling, or whining from Perry-zealots will ever change that.

They are not facts...they are YOUR opinions. Nothing more, nothing less.

If Perry "trained" them, that would still imply that Perry did all the work...therefore, you ARE saying he did it alone.

heardonthestreet wrote:Too bad that they forgot everything that he taught them.

They have forgotten nothing. They can still play, they can still write, they can still perform.

heardonthestreet wrote: Even Rolie stated that Perry taught them how to play to a singer and look what you got now? A run-away guitar, imo.

There is no runaway guitar. They still play to the singer. And you know full-well that Perry implicitly respects Neal Schon's talents and abilities when it comes to the guitar.

Oh well, since the gloves are now off.........The BAD penny is back, and with the same sorry agenda. Shame on you dudes, for "biting" I think she is 220, with a donut in her mouth, sitting at a computer 24/7. Sorry, Andrew, but she asked for it. Rock'N you did nothing wrong, except for being able to take just so much crap.

Journey's tour, which is selling well, and their new and great CD, Generations, must be eating away at her ass.

I am interested to hear Perry's backing vocals on David Pack's CD as well. As I said, I believe they will remind me of an old friend.

But it HAS been 9 years since we have heard Perry SING...and sing lead. What we have heard has been vocalizing NOT singing. His voice was again, inviting and cause for reminiscing.

Perry worked with the best in Journey.
Perry solo worked with the best people who would do exactly what he wanted without question. After all, these were HIS projects.
Perry is smart enough to get the desired results.

And how come Perry had to use so many other writers to write his songs?
Not that there is anything wrong with using outside writers, they do help spark creativity. But if Perry was THE reason for the success and Neal and Jon had nothing to do with it, why couldn't Perry write some hits on his own?

What are all you going to think if perry's voice isn't all that great? I mean, hey, we haven't heard him for 9 years..I'm sure they will "make sure" he sounds good. Perry is a perfectionist, so I am willing to bet he can still sing..

Like Neal said last week, "He needs to be heard again."

Don't all get so jocked out of shape. It's just the way that I see things from up here. From down below, I'm sure that things look all together different to some of you and that's all fine and good. Why can't I have a point of view as I realize the history of the band? You have your's and are welcome to it.

When you run out of adj. for ths new c.d., I have a few suggestions. I'm waiting for the Ohhhhhhhhhhhing and Ahhhhhhhhhhhing to run out of steam.
Admit i! It's a two week hack job.

Because you don't have an informed point of view.
You are a partisan who bashes anything this current incarnation releases before evaluating it on it's own respective merits (or lack of).
You are merely carping.

As a famous author once said, you are not entitled to your own opinion, you are entitled to your own informed opinion.

heardonthestreet wrote:Admit it! It's a two week hack job.

I guess all the other Kevin Elson produced Journey cds were fly by night hack work too, right?
In your eyes, I guess "Escape" and "Captured" are total and utter crap?

Like I said, your posts don't present a differing pov, they are merely baseless carping.

Like you're credible.

You've been bashing the "Generations" cd before even the track list came out. Every piece of album news that has gradually came down the pike has been torn to shreds by you.

Like I said, you are a tendetious hack, everything spewed out of your mouth regarding the current lineup is predictably negative, negative, negative.

Heardonthestreet: You Have Got To Be Kidding? Yes?

I normally keep my strongest feelings to myself, but to call the guys of Journey Steve Perry's sidemen was one of the most idiotic remarks I've yet heard on these message boards.

You absolutely took this to another level.

Shame on you.
