Guys, I know some of you might not like what I say now, but who cares

I own the Promo Copy of Generations now for almost a Month and tried and tried to get into the Album, but this is very hard.

I won`t say one single word about Steve Augeri, he is doing a fuckin brilliant job !!! And god knows how much I hated him for ruining Tyketto`s Shine Album ( he really sounded shit on that Album ). But his voice is really great and fits perfect to the songs.

Let`s talk about the Album itself. The first two racks are godlike and I was surprised how good Deen`s voice shines on A Better Life. But than this Album gets more worst and worst, who the hell has the Idea to let Jonathan Cain sing ???? The same with Ross Valory and Neal Schon !!! These guys should leave it to Steve Augeri and its the voices that definitely ruin these tracks.

For sure this Album has a couple of more brilliant tracks like Believe and Knowing that you Love me and Beyond the Clouds, but thats not enough to forget about the shitty vocal performances I mentioned above sorry but its better to be honest I think. If you have such a good Shouter like Steve Augeri its really strange to let people with such voices sing, and especially the track with Neal on vocals makes me run to me CD Player and search for the next track, this is almost cruel for my ears !!!

Still a good Album but you better listen to it very careful before you spend your money here.

Well, being the first to respond to your critique, all I can say is thanks for your honesty. Unlike others here, I can accept it. I think your "choice of words" is a bit off, and I'm not talking about the curse words, Hell I like it when someone throws around a "fuck" or a "shit" in order to emotionally and effectively convey his or her opinion. However, with that being said, You are the first one to say this is "crap" and that's ok, because you are definately in the minority.

By the way, I like how you can get the cursed words to fit, but dude, your grammar ain't all that
I thought I was reading a message from GWB himself..

There are plenty of Augeri-fronted tracks on the record. I'm glad all have taken turns this time around and look forward to hear the results (thanks again, rockn). In the future I think they should keep it to 1 Deen track and Cain and Augeri doing a track sharing vox like Perry/Rolie. (check out the Augeri-Cain live versions of Anytime and Feeling That Way, they're great) I think Jon alone and Neal and Ross are 1-shot deals for Generations only.

And why the potshot at Jonathan? Am I the only one who likes "We're All That Really Matters?" I fucking LOVE that song and wish they'd resurrect it for concert.

So the first two tracks are "godlike" and there are "more brilliant tracks like Believe and Knowing that you Love Me and Beyond the Clouds." So 5 great songs in your opinion and still you don't like the CD? Odd conclusion. There are lots of albums that have one great song and the rest are boring.

It's to the album's detriment that so many classic Journey songs are lumped together in the very beggining of this album. It gives the impression that the whole album will be following in that particular style when in fact, after track 4, the album sort of sharply veers off into more ambitious unchartered musical terrain.

Ross's track is fun, but for the next time out, I'd prefer if the lead vox were distributed ONLY amongst Steve, Deen and Cain. Would really like to see a JC duet with Augeri. "Beyond the Clouds" features Deen prominently in the background at one point, almost sounds like a duet with Augeri starting for a moment.

The varying lead vocals may take you out of knowing you're listenting to a Journey album, but I don't feel they go so far as to ruin anything.

I think "Believe" is one of the worst Journey songs ever written. The lyrics are soo pedestrian. I am ashamed Augeri even submitted such unfinished pablum for consideration for this album. I have grown a callous from hitting the skip button so much on that particular track.

I don't think Neal's voice is bad enough to ruin the song (for me, anyways) however, I think putting "Self Defense" on the album, when it had already been recorded elsewhere, was a little self indulgent on Neal's part. When it comes to releasing a new record, new material always has priority over covers.

"Arrival" was longer, so it might seem like there were more good tracks, but there was alot of filler on there. "Generations" is only 12 tracks long and there is only one song I skip over. Juxtaposed to "Arrival" were I skip anywhere from 3-4 songs.

Sounds to me that you are somewhat prejudiced towards Mr. Schon.
Neal has an adequate voice...nothing special, nothing horrible. No biggie. But, being the Hardline fan that you obviously are, maybe you should also give him some of the credit for the initial success of Hardline. I have heard many stories about what went down within Hardline. Ricky and Neal, being well-established "stars", supposedly needed to live BIG. This was their "ego"...whatever. Neal supposedly treated Gioeli's siter poorly, leading to divorce...whatever. But, at the same time, it was Neal's involvement in Hardline that gave the band notice and drew many of the fans that they got. Hardline is a decent band, but I think their debut is a masterpiece and I think their 2nd CD is ok....and what is the difference between those 2 CDs? Mr. Schon.

This is the second attempt now by you to insinuate that Steve's role as lead singer has been supplanted. As you've been told on repeated occasions, Augeri is singing lead on an OVERWHELMING majority of tracks on this album and in concert.

Oh well, another three weeks have passed now since I have that promo and I thin I have to take back few of the negative things I said when I posted first, almost all tracks are godlike !!!! The Album grew on me and now I can`t get it off my CD Player. Damn Journey

This is one of the things I like about this board. We all have a passion for Journey, and their music, but sometimes other than that, we may not agree. Case in point- Believe, there are some on this board that do not like this song, some think it's the worst song ever written by the group, and some think it's ok. Nothing against these people, it their opinion. And my opinion the song is close to brillant. The more I listen to to it the more and more I see how well this song shines. It has a very DEPATURE fell to the song. Yes the lyrics are simple, but Augeri haas the confidence in his voice to pull this simple song off. He could not have done this on Arrival. Sometimes simple is best. But I am not going to cuss someone or call them stupid or get someone pissed off becasue they do not agree with me. (and I'm not trying to now, it's 6 30 am and I'm rambling), anyway I lost my train of thought.......I was going somewhere with this...........

Everybody I see at work, I tell them you get the new CD by going to the show, and they think it's cool! It's gonna be a good show.

Generations is not one of Journey's best efforts in my opinion. Although good, it isn't great. I was hoping for great.
