Confessional....

Postby The_Noble_Cause » Sat Jul 23, 2005 9:58 am

Although I won't play it in public (at least not loud) deep down I secretly really like "Gone Crazy".
What can I say?
It's a fun track.
I even like Ross's vocals.

...still, it probably should've been relegated to bonus track status just due to it's aberrant, totally odd-ball nature.

Sorry NC. I love all things Journey, past and present but GoneCrazy just doesn't do it for me. Bonus track status would definately sufice.

When you've got vocalists of Steve and DEE's capabilitites you don't waste spacewith Ross singing. IMO.

Same here, has kind of a ZZ TOP feel to it. Only problem, it doens't help the flow of the cd. But a good song-ERIC

or Neal.

Jon just barely makes the grade. His voice is nothing special (better than Neal's though) but it adds that non high-pitched, gruff Rolie element that the band has been missing for years.
I'd like to see them explore that some more at some point.
Maybe a duet?

That's the problem with the different singer tracks on this album. On their own, the tracks make for good songs. But in the context of a Journey record, they sorta serve to pull u out from what ur listening to. Hopefully, this jarring effect will fade with time.

totally agree.

A duet would be good.

Gone crazy just seems like a waste of a track to me, as does Self Defense. A duet between Jon and Steve, or Jon and Deen would be great.

Or even better Steve and Deen, that would be good.

They are a waste, but at least they are listenable wastes! There is a difference. I actually moderately enjoy them, as opposed to track 6 which is a waste of which has no redeeming qualities. In fact, my finger has grown calloused from hitting the 'skip' button so much on that one.

Yeah, you can hear Deen pretty prominently at one point during "Beyond the Clouds". They sound great together.

They are listenable wastes. But why waste any space you have.

Put on a couple more Steve sung tracks, or Deen tracks. remove Believ and you have almost a perfect melodic rock cd. But the 3 tracks mentioned do IMO taint it.

I like Believe, sounds like it came off Evolution or Departure though. It's not great song, but I like.-ERIC

Agreed.
Reminds me of "Daydream" or "Ladyluck" two tunes that like "Believe" I don't care for all that much.

I completely agree...except I will play it loudly in public. I really like this track...it is a smokin', bluesy rock romp. It is so much fun. It IS out of place on the CD but that doesn't even bother me that much.
