"Journey's latest CD, Generations, will be given out free to all concertgoers Wednesday. Schon says it's a continuation of the guitar-heavy direction the band took when it resumed making new records after Steve Perry, the singer on all its biggest hits, left in the late '90s.

Schon calls the new record "not quite as heavy" as the previous Red 13, "but it's a rocker." He adds that each member of the group sings lead on at least one song.

He's also planning a remix of Red 13, to eventually be sold in a package with Generations.

Generations is only available at the shows for now, though Schon says that a deal with Sanctuary Records is in the works."

OMG!! Maybe Kevin is remixing the RED13 material. How GREAT is that, the songs were incredible, they just sounded too raw. NOW maybe people will appreciate them. And this could be the music Neal was referring to when he said he wanted to add 3-4 new songs to "Generations". It would make sense to remix this music and add it as a 2nd disc to the package. Limited time to invest, no additional packaging.

THIS is a good thing to MY ears!!

I don't get it.Kalodner said "no" to JRNY for Sanctuary.

I was surprised to see that too. But maybe they worked something out. I don't recall him specifically saying "NO", he just said he WOULD be interested if Perry were there. Maybe Neal meant Universal?

I hope he meant Universal, Kalodner has done nothing for Journey. Sony's failure to get behind Arrival may or may not have been his fault, but he has had nothing positive to say about the current band. He sounds like a Perry ass kisser to me. I hope they have learned their lesson in dealing with him, he will certainly try to dictate what Journey should sound like as he did with Arrival--they have surely had enough of that.

As for Red 13, I'd like to see it added to Generations. With a better mix from Elson, Red13 might be my favorite Journey album even on its own.

I agree completely. If it is Sanctuary, then I am sure they will have to come to an understanding.

Maybe this is just a way to get other labels interested...mention a label and maybe another label says "Hmmm, we better check into Journey"??

I agree here as well. Until "Generations" was released, I listened to Red13 more than any other Journey CD on a regular basis. I got past the production so that didn't bother me. The only problem was that it was too short to keep playing over and over again. But as a "bonus" to "Generations", WITH better production? A win-win to me!

If not for Kalodner seemingly trying so hard to make sure Arrival sounded "Journey" enough, you'd almost think Sony sabotaged the project, Kalodner hoping Perry might come back.

I'd almost like to hear Red 13 mixed with Generations rather than as a bonus, in particular starting the album with State of Grace, then Faith In The Heartland. (I think SOG was the best set opener for a live show that they've had except for possibly Separate Ways.) But something would have to go, probably Ross and Neal's vocal songs. I really like In Self Defense but would cut it for 3 or 4 from Red 13. But you get into too long of an album like TBF or Arrival, which doesn't bother me, but is a problem to many.
