What Journey "hit" song never grabbed you?

I love the music on Faithfully but I could just get into that tune. I mean I like it more than 90 percent of the crap on the radio today but it never grabbed me.

The same goes with Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin...put it in the blender and hit puree...;)

That is so hard to say. They all grabbed me in some way or another, but over the years there are many that I no longer 'enjoy'.

I NEVER got into Open Arms, so that song really is the bane of existence!
I don't like DSB much anymore. WITS and LTS, I can live without now. WCN doesn't do anything for me anymore either.
In fact, I was VERY surprised when I recently listened to Escape and I skipped four songs on it. That used to be my favorite CD...not anymore, now it's Frontiers.
But I still think Departure sees the band Journey at it's BEST! Followed by "Generations". Maybe not all the songs click for everyone, but I think both these CDs represent Journey doing it! Firing on all cylinders, chemistry, lyrics, melodies....perfection, magic!

Open Arms has really begun to wear on me. I still love it live, but I skip it when it's on CD or the radio.

While I agree with Amaron to the extend that OA has become decidedly grating it never the less has always grabbed me. It feels fresher to hear the Augeri live renditions as well.

For my real answer to the thread I have to go with AWYWI. I'd never find myself putting that on a mix cd....

Faithfully has never turned me on. After the Fall is a bit dull, too.

This is one of the reasons this band amazes me. After The Fall's probably still lodged firmly in at least my top 10 if not top 5.

And the sealer for me is the last part of the song with moodly outro solos by Cain and Schon kicked off by that awesome bass fill by Ross. It's maybe 2 seconds long. You can hear it on the album, but you can REALLY hear it on GHL. Right before Neal and Jon go off there's Ross : Ba Da Ba Bump Ba Da Da Da BUMP........

See, kay? I disagree with NIG.

I agree completely! When Frontiers came out ATF and SHML were quick favorites!

Yea. Bleep you, NIG.

I'm feeling ya on Little Girl, though. Dig it a TON. We talked about it already.... You're a nerd for not liking after the fall. I'll bet it's goofy campy video that wrecks it for ya.

Actually, I never saw the video until I got the GH DVD. It's ok, but just kind of boring to me. that wasn't a real big hit, although it was on the radio, correct?

Open Arms, I have always hated this song, it was a horrible song, it was changed Journey from being a great rock band to a run of the mill poppy sugary love song hit machine.... :x

You took my exact thoughts right out from under me, but said it in a much nicer way.

"Open Arms".....a gag me song...... tailor made for King Tut to sing.

Yup....I KNEW the minute I closed this I'd think of one! LOL

For the "Sheer Lack of Originality" award, my choice is:

"Message of Love"

For the following reason:

Baby, can you hear me?
Someday, love will find you

Can you hear me callin'?
Break those chains that bind you

Baby, can you hear my
One night will remind you

Message of love?
How we touched and went our Separate Ways

Baby, can you hear me?
If he ever hurt you

Can you hear me callin'?
True love won't desert you

Baby, can you hear my
You know I still love you

Message of love?
Though we touched and went our Separate Ways

Don't believe me? Sing along for yourself....

Post that in BT and see how fast they remove it!

Actually, I HAVE said it at BT. Maybe I am fortunate, but other than one time when I was continually criticizing the band for something (I really can't remember anymore, but that is around the time Cat came to this board) I have NEVER been harassed for my criticisms.

I like Message of Love a lot. I'd say Space Man is my least favorite Journey hit song.

Red13, thanks buddy. I'm all about the original sound of this band, thats why I love Generations so much, it feels like a return to where they came from, without sounding and old and dated.

Yes, they are playing Of A Lifetime, it was the 2nd song when they were here in Denver. I nearly fainted when I heard those first notes. It was a dream come true. 8)

MMmmmmmmmmmm....don't know about that. I've heard rumors but has that REALLY been documented? At any rate, it's Valory who does it on GHL where it's more prominent.

Except for one prominent keyboard part, u guys are really overstating it....

Yea, well the "uh" was tossed in there as though it's common knowledge and an obvious mistake to assume it's Ross. But if memory serves Ross was credited as the bassist on all Frontiers tracks, in fact was the band's bassist at the time , so my assumption is that it's his bass line.

Jaxon I think is given a vague "thanks to" on the album credits but that doesn't mean to me that he played that part.

sngrchk04 might KNOW differently, though. If that's the case that's cool too. I'm sure it's true he probly covered some of Ross' parts but to my knowledge they've never been specified only speculated on....

Agree. I see minimal, if any similarities in the verses and chorus. I think what does it is Cain's one key part. Funny how a lot of people like it (me included) when Neal reprises guitar parts (WCN? comes to mind) but a similar key part (to SW) causes a lot of people to dislike MOL.

I never said I Didn't like MOL, but it is a rather un-creative song for Journey to LEAD off the TBF singles with. Much like when I first heard TPIYH and heard ATL through parts of it. But MOL has it to a much larger dgree..it was almost distracting to begin with. Once I got "used" to the song, it no longer affected me. But it was GLARING to begin with.

As for After The Fall, while I am not sure where it is documented, it is a fact that Randy played bass on it.

But it IS documented somewhere?

Why wasn't he credited with more than a general "thanks to?"
