Check out this Q&A of Perry concerning Ross and Smitty's exclusion from ROR! Tell me how Smitty was PLAYING ON ROR TRACKS if this was the truth...

http://www.journey-tribute.com/journey/resources/articles/86_torontosun.html

Q: Was it difficult for Journey when Ross Valory and Steve Smith left? Did you think of disbanding or, especially with your solo success, going out on your own?

A: we had a lot of problems within the group that we couldn't resolve, and we decided to go our separate ways. I did my solo album and there was really no reason for us to get back together, except that Jon (Cain), Neal (Schon) and I wanted to get back together and just check it out. It's really hard to explain what finally came down but we did get together to do an album, and resolved some of our problems. The other two members of the band didn't even want to go on tour or get back into the whole thing. They hadn't played the kind of music that we were playing when we left off; Steve was playing jazz, actually, and Ross wasn't playing at all. When we got back together we had three. Jon and Neal and I had always kept our chops up, and I had done a solo album, so we were ready to roll. But they weren't, so we decided to continue without them.

What are you saying?

Did Perry get caught in a lie??

There's nothing in there that's technically a lie. It's just a "smoothing over" of the story(as is often done by all of them for PR purposes) rather the WHOLE truth.

ok, just asking...

We DO know Perry had those two fired.. In this interview, he says they weren't "keeping up their chops." That is insulting..

O well, it's over now..

Smoothing over is one thing, but he is flat out changing the realities. He is saying that Ross and Smitty never came back to Journey when at least Smitty played ON THE ROR CD.

Or MAYBE Perry is actually telling...God forbid...THE TRUTH.

Oh, please, if you read other interviews, you'll find Perry contradicting this 'story'. If he isn't lying here, he was lying in other interviews....just as he did following TBF.

Most of you wouldn't recognize the truth unless someone drew you a picture and then your kids would have to explain it to you. You believe whatever fits your agenda.

What is it that some of you don't understand about the word, FAME? It's obvious that Augeri dosen't have a clue.

If Neal wants his name to be a household word, he should change it to, "Toilet Paper." :?

PUH-LEEEEZE. Your "achievements" would probably not even be worthy to print on Neal's TP.

I think I'll believe Steve Smith when he repeatedly insisted he was fired...and he did NOT contradict himself.

There you go, bringing Steve Augeri into a conversation that was NOT ABOUT HIM! And you also had to go after Neal, when the conversation was NOT ABOUT HIM. Perfect example of "what YOU do".

Yeah, yeah! My random thoughts and all that. Sometimes I just can't help myself. When I see how stupid some of these posts are, running down the only good thing that ever brought Journey fame, I lose it.

The "only" good thing?
My, my, what a selective choice of words.
That does it.
You are purposely trying to instigate chaos on this forum while Andrew's taking a breather.

I don't get it.
What does FAME have to do with ANYTHING we are discussing currently in this thread?
Maybe you equate "fame" with needlessly "lying", but I don't.
While granted, the band did have to obligatorily "spin" the firing of Ross and Steve couldn't Perry have done so in a way that wasn't demeaning to them?

I don't think you do either.
I ask you again, what on earth does "fame" have anything remotely to do with the topic being discussed in this thread?
If you don't answer, I will have no choice but to interpret your silence as a resounding affirmation of your comment's indefensible irrationality.

It's also funny how you always try to change the subject instead of defending your opinions.

I explained to Dave. My first thought related to the topic and the other two were random. Call it filler, if you will. Like a thought, if you don't use, you lose it.

So you're basically fessing to just aimlessly posting whatever first springs to your head.
That's rather interesting coming from someone who just berated me saying...

Try harder. Stop insulting Augeri. He has more class in his pinky than Perry has in his whole body. And he can still sing.

Don't respond if it bothers you. You are the one who should be humiliated by your description of that pic of Perry.

C'mon, HOTS. If someone described a picture of Augeri that way, you would be the first one to laugh.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. In fact, I find it highly amusing.
I just love how you can't seem to go a single comment without disclaiming a comment u made previously.
You do my job for me by regularly proving yourself to be a reprobate liar.

heardonthestreet wrote:You are the one who should be humiliated by your description of that pic of Perry.

Why?
Perry looks like a bloated corpse.
That's not my doing.

Dave, and Deano, there were a lot of realities that were "smoothed over" by everyone connected with the band for years. Just like the ROR Doc and other related interviews, in which Neal and Jon talked like they loved the album and agreed with the decisions that were made. Maybe "glossed over" would be a better choice of words. I think Steve was probably just going along with the previously prescribed protocal so as not to get into a deeper discussion of the reasons for the changes that were made. There were a lot of personal problems that were going on in all the guys' personal and professional lives. Maybe descretion in the form of "smoothing over" was the kindest thing to do for everyone concerned.

I agree with that.
PR spin or "smoothing over" happens ALL the time in the 'biz.
No suprise there.
But why paint Ross and Smitty as so inept and ill-prepared?

But why paint Ross and Smitty sound so inept and ill-prepared?

Anyone else here heard of L.S.D.? (Lead Singer's Disease)

Because....maybe, just maybe, he was, at one time or another, and at various stages of his career, an ego-maniacle pain in the ass that had to get his way in order to find the happiness that could only be attained through an "I'm calling the shots" solo-career.

ROR is a pure Steve Perry album, and I do not regard it as a Journey record....I still listen to the first 5 or so tracks every once in a while though...Positive Touch was Smitty - so I'm unclear about that with regards to the quote that was referenced....wonder how many other tracks Smitty was originally involved in and if they could be released so that I could hear them....haha....fat chance

my .02

Your first thought had little to do with the thread. As for the rest, you lost it a long time ago...
