Trouble Brewin' Concerning Dallas Show

Postby jrnyman28 » Thu Sep 29, 2005 11:10 am

Apparantly, for the filming of the DVD, Journey brought in a bevy of beauties and their 'escorts' to fill the front rows. Many of these people did not have tickets for that, and once they were in others snuck down. This has rightfully pissed off the people who spent the extra dough for 4 and 5 star tickets.

I did notice a plethora of females filling the front rows, but most of them seemed like they were struggling to see the band because of all the cameramen in front.

Speaking of a bevy of beauties... the Dallas Cowboys may not be great on the field, but their cheerleaders are excellent on stage!

Agreed. Those real fans are to be recompensated in some way, I feel. Typical piss poor Journey management.

Is it known for certain that Journey was responsible for this? I've been to lots of shows where security was lax and let people get up front in front of people who had tickets on the front row. It may well be the band or someone connected to them who is responsible but what would be the point, I don't see them featuring the crowd to the extent that they'd worry about the appearance of the people up front.

One person reported asking one of the girls and her response was that Journey was paying her to be up there. One of the guys apparantly said that Journey asked them to be up front.

So it is coming from Journey somehow.

Damn, this is disappointing, not what you'd expect of them, thanks for bringing me up to speed, I checked Back Talk to see what I could find out but apparently everthing has been removed or I overlooked it somehow, I didn't read many of the reviews.

Whatup, NealIsGod?

Refer to her 2 more times and she'll be here.

Fucking beatlejuice.

Anyway I wonder if there were plants on the 2001 dvd. There were a few hot chicks who the camera picked up a couple times, but far from a "bevy" of them. Certainly not the drunk girl seizing up in the aisle during Escape.

I should mention that at the "Dallas" show they had the front sections roped off with a staff member checking tickets. I did make quick trips to the refreshment stand, and every time I came back the staff guy checked my ticket. It wasn't until the last time I returned and showed him the ticket that he finally said, "I should recognize you by now." So unless the staff was aware of some clandestine plan, I don't see how all the "ladies" were there without tickets.

Boy, you needed to slef medicate THAT much to get through Neal's emotionless (compared to Ed) playing.

I wonder if you'll get on the DVD.

I refuse to believe that Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Steve Augeri, Ross Valory, or Deen Castronovo had anything to do with the people/act in question. Their management/Sanctuary on the other hand...

Aw come on. I'm having some fun with VH101. He knows we love BOTH guys and I know his skin is not as thin as those 2 whackos in the other place.
I'm glad VH101 went to see the guys in Dall. I don't get the emotion thing anyway. I can't tell.
If it gets MY emotions going (both players do) then I like it. :|

In all probability the band was most likely aware of it. Like it or not, it's a business and all have been in the business long enough to know that there are decisions that they believe will help the cause that most fans would find distasteful. Do I think it is a good decision? No, but I understand where it comes from.

I guess considering how often I've read here how much some new footage would be appreciated by you all, I think in the long run you'll be happy if it comes out.

Not trying to fan any flames, just making an observation.

I am sure it was a business decision, and the band knew about it. I am also sure Journey is not the first band to do this. It's a pretty cheesy move, but I guess they think it makes the DVD more exciting.

Personally, I don't see what the point was. Journey was never the type of band that objectified women. Even though they talk about the change in audience once Perry came on board and the started playing ballads, it was not a goal to be portrayed that way. So why did they feel the need now? Do they think it will help market the band to more consumers if pretty women are all "we" see of the audience? Maybe they are planning on releasing videos from the DVD like they did with Arrival?

I'm guessing the intent was to show the band could attract a young, hip, pretty crowd...sort of like saying we are still viable in today's market. It is cheesy, but it's also human. Trying to maintain that image or get it back. I think we have all done things that in hindsight we wonder why we did, but at the time we convinced ourselves it was a good idea.

That's what I am assuming too. Funny thing is, there have been so many "kids" at these shows that I think it would be obvious that Journey can still attract a young audience. I also think it would have been a better marketing ploy to move a bunch of teenagers to the front row instead of an army of bimbos.

Sure it would, but I think they're trying to market themselves to the wrong crowd. I'd honestly say it has a lot to do with feeling a bit insecure in their ability to get back to their heyday. In no way am I taking anything away from their talent or ability, just thinking that perhaps their human frailties might be at work here.

Hi, Kay.
It's not the band's fault your industry sucks now. The payoff joke really falls flat in light of the revelations that it was label(s) paying the radio off to keep the songs/bands you always hear anymore on the radio instead of the still-going classic bands.
Journey, Styx, REO guys like that are the ones getting shut out because of those payoffs.
