Sort of OT - Fanasylum

I hadn't been there since spring until artinis 1 gave us the heads up about the DVD release. Does it seem to anyone else that there's been a big change over there where Steve Perry's concerned in the last year or so? Now there's a Steve Perry mailing list. I don't know how long it's been there, but it seems like a big change to me. A couple years ago it seemed as if Steve was trying to avoid any interaction with the public. I don't know what it means, and I'm not suggesting it means anything related to Journey. It just seems sort of interesting.

Didn't notice. Perhaps he is (albeit very slowly) coming out of his shell after all these years?
I think it's a trickery slope for him. On the one hand, I think he genuinely loved basking in the glow of recognition and admiration at the WOF, and on the other hand, I think he was careful not to re-ignite those long extant feelings. Judging by his interviews, he seems to associate feelings of fame and notoriety as being shallow and that there is more to life than that. So I think it's difficult for him to know how to deal with his existing fame. Does he revel in it, or shun it? Or find some middle ground of doing both?

I can't help but speculate that maybe the exposure Patti and Charleze gave him through Monster and the WOF thing have something to do with the change. If there really is a change.

It seems as if finding that middle ground may have been part of the problem back in the day, but that should be easier now.

Maybe Perry realizes being famous isn't all that bad!

Middle-ground might be the best word for it.

I also had not been over to FanAsylum since Perry's Q&A, before that it was his Holiday Greetings. Back then there didn't seem like a lot of activity EXCEPT for Perry's announcements...they were always front page news. I was surprised to see the new format with all the other stars and links. At first I thought Perry was relegated to the bottom of list. Until I thought about the fact that he basically has his own page there now. That is a step up isn't it? Perry almost has an official web site now. Well, it is just a web page but STILL!

It's a whole lot more than we've had for a long time. I think I'll make it a point to pop in there occasionally. Just in case their counting hits or something.

Just to clear this up. Since Steve isn't an "official" client of Fan Asylum, we don't have him listed on our homepage as a client. He knows he is welcome to use our site at any time he wishes as a means to relay information. We started the email list so that we can send out notices to those interested when we have news (like the Journey DVD release). That's all. It doesn't mean that we are about to announce an official fan club or that we will be forwarding messages to Steve, or that something major is about to happen. It's just for passing along news. :D

I'll second that, Chris!

Thanks for keeping us informed, Lora. It's easy to see that Perry has some great friends.
