I'm torn on this.

Steve Augeri can't sing DSB with 2/3 of the people who wrote it without a hassle but Steve Perry can sing it WITHOUT 2/3 of the people who wrote it?

That's really sort of easy to figure out Amaron, at least it is for me. I guess it depends on your point of view, but to me Steve Perry is the original artist who sang the song.

I understand that, but it's not HIS song. There are two other people who should have every right to perform it when and how and with who they choose.

That's ok, amaron. I'll take a new full length CD and tour over some 3 second glimpses during a baseball game any day!

I guess you have to be a loyal Steve Perry fan to understand the logic of it all.

Well, look at it this way, how many of the songs that say a Frank Sinatra or Elvis Presley are known for were written by them? It isn't the songwriter that makes a song recognizable to people, it's the singer. Who a song technically belongs to is irrelevant to most people who enjoy hearing a song.

Yeah, a song belongs to the singer who sang it as a member of the band, not to the band as a whole.
This is the biggest bunch of bs I've read from Perryheads yet.
Journey songs are Journey songs.
Steve Perry songs are only those included on Street Talk, FTLOSM,
and 3 Hits, Some Other Lame Stuff, and 5 Unreleased, and whatever else he's done that was never released.

Heard, you got it right, that is "logic" only you could understand.

I don't think any of us would disagree with this part of your statement. But these guys performed as solo artists with backing musicians.
Journey is a band.
So Stairway to Heaven is a Robert Plant song, not a Led Zep song?

You have to give the people what they want and they want Perry. What's it going to take to get some of you to understand this?

Okay, from everything I've read, it appears it was the Sox players who asked for Steve Perry. We all know it's a Journey song, but apparently these men only asked for Steve (most likely the front man syndrome).

That being said, since I've not had the good fortune to see Journey or Steve perform live, how will he be able to sing that song without backup? I love the song, but that's because of all its components.

I myself think of the song as a Journey song. I think that since Steve has made himself available to the team, for at least the players the distinction is now blurred.

Me, I just want to see the team win. And if Perry sings, great...if not, hey he got some mileage out of it.

People with your idiotic line of thinking maybe.

There are three types of fans:

1.) Fans that accept Steve Augeri.
2.) Fans that do not accept Steve Augeri and choose to listen to older Journey music and be content with that.
3.) Fans that do not accept Steve Augeri and feel they need to pepper every message board, post-SP Journey thread, post-SP album review with such bullshit as "JOURNEY IS NOTHING WITHOUT STEVE PERRY!!!one!!1!eleven". They cannot accept the fact that their personal Jesus was shown the fucking door. They cannot accept the fact that Journey DARED to move on without Mr. "I never felt like part of the band."

If you're part of #3, go fuck yourself.

Glad to amuse, what a pretentious title that was for someone who (solo) had one big hit, one minor hit (well I might be slighting foolish heart here a bit) and a couple other songs that go a little airplay.

Oh, and if DSB is his song, why was it not on his GH album??

I'm resisting a follow up to NIG's "fat Perry" remark. Ah, what the hell, I thought he looked like an unattractive chunky middle aged house wife.
I too would love to hear him croak his song live.

I choose door # 2

They really shouldn't have shown him the door you know.

How do you spell escape? Isn't that the name of a song? "The Man That Got Away?"
He never felt like he was part of the band so why stay where you're not appreciated..

I agree that being part of a band that isn't named for any particular member of the group(ie, Bon Jovi) is a different circumstance than being a solo artist. However, it's already been pretty much agreed here that when you're talking Steve Perry it's not quite the same as most frontmen. Journey was identified by his voice more so than is the norm for bands like that. His voice became their trademark. Once Escape came out some djs were actually saying calling them Steve Perry and Journey. I know you don't think that's right or fair, but it's the way it is.
