Here, Perry sounds almost passable.
Note how he steadfastly remains within the limits of his lower range.
Enjoy!

Greggie wrote:Maybe that's the biggest reason for the whole TBF thing. More than likely, Perry can still record fine sounding albums, but the live performances are too much for him to handle at this point?
Greggie wrote:......and the biggest thing for him is owning up to that fact and seeing what he can do, if anything, to correct that problem and move forward. We all know he'll never sound like the Steve Perry of '81, but he doesn't have to.

But, it seems that a lot of people still want to focus on those high notes rather than the beautiful sound that can come from a lower register. There is no problem to correct. He isn't touring or recording, therefore, there is no problem. He's just having fun.

As much as I'd LOVE to see it....I have to agree with thebook...thebook wrote:NealIsGod wrote:I'm surprised no one is focusing on the message of the interview in the link above. Perry said the Sox have given him a lot of joy and he may start singing again. Well?

ohsherrie wrote:I've never thought Steve sounded his best when he was yelling a song. He sang loudly, with the mike right against his lips and the sound adusted to emphacize the vocals, but he didn't usually yell the way he had to in that rally clip.
ohsherrie wrote:As a matter of fact I've never liked any screaming vocals by any singer, anymore than I like screaming guitars. They all sound stressed, strained and unmelodic to me.
The voice of "an early Steve Perry?????"The_Noble_Cause wrote:Journey's current drumer, Deen, is very raspy when he talks, but yet has the voice of an early Steve Perry.
Nonetheless, very informative post John H.
JohnH wrote:I have that on DVD Hard Drive.....The thing is....not only is he singing what appears to be a full octave lower, in the Street Parade clip but also here on this infield clip.....It's possible that he's not even singing the song in the original key.....I'll go grab my guitar later , tomorrow (It's sunday and I play gigs four days a week so not today) and check. Another thing.....have you guys noticed that when he talks....his voice is very raspy. That's an indication of a damaged voice....How the hell would he be able to hit any high notes if he talks like he's just been singing on tour for two months?

Greggie wrote:How early? I'd give him back to Frontiers, just judging from Generations, but not sure about anything earlier than that. Of course, it might be a different story live in concert..which I didn't have the pleasure of seeing this year.
