Theory # 1:

The band's break next year is not owed to any natural on-set of malaise, or an opportune time to recharge the members' collective creative juices. No, rather, it is an opportunity for Augeri to check straight into re-hab to kick his increasingly isurmountable dependence on addictive vocal steroids.

THEORY 2

Neal Schon is actually 3 different prototype droids developed by Gibson guitars to road test and QA new guitar technology. All 3 Schon models are kept in hyperbaric chambers in a warehouse up in Marin and dispatched to perform required tasks, many times simultaneously. Deen's recusal from the Soul Sirkus project was actually to protect him from the knowledge that Schon model #3 was slightly irregular (a defect in the vital melody chip). Should Deen have found this out, he would have been lobotomized and sent out to tour as Bobby Blotzer's replacement in the new Poison.

Steve Perry, Gregg Rolie, Steve Smith, Josh Ramos, and Randy Jackson are forming the ultimate Journey tribute, and will be performing about 4 shows a year in and around the greater Chicago metro area. After recouperating for 3-4 months after each show, Perry's renewed confidence in his abilities will lead him to have a theater built for him by Las Vegas mogul Steve Wynn, and a nightly review entitled "Strung Out!" will debut, complete with purple painted tigers, topless dancing girls, and the entire cast of extras from Queen's "I Want To Break Free" video. After a successful 3 week opening, an altercation one night in Perry's dressing room with Wayne Newton will end in tragedy.

You two, wouldn't Augeri's vox be much deeper now if he really were using steroids regularly? I don't hear it at all.

I guess Jeremy's saying (previous thread) that vox roids are different than bodybuilding ones but I still think his voice woulda changed deeper. Though stronger than ever on Generations, it's not deep. He's always had a deep register he can plumb the depths of, too (KMS, Butterfly, some lines of TPIYH, FITH)....

Oh it's THERE on Tall Stories. NIG, what's your spin on that record? To me he barely sounds like he did on Arrival. Both are awesome performances, but decidedly different. TS Steve emerges again a little On Generations.

I think this steriod regimine is different from anabolic steriods.

Bobby was RATT's drummer, is there a story I have missed?

On the steroid issue, I would imagine Steve stays very healthy (especially on tour) and he is probably only using them (if at all) during the 3-4 months of touring. That would give his body 8 months to recouperate and stay healthy.

As for Tall Stories/Generations, Steve mentioned in Andrew's interview that he brought back his TS/rock voice more for this release. And THAT is why I think you hear Steve "come into his own" on this CD. He is not singing to sound specifically similar to Perry, he is singing with HIS voice now. That has been evident on tour as well...over the past few years Steve as found himself on stage. And he has started singing the classic Journey songs as if they were his own. He has his own connection to the material now.

While I think Steve has improved as a singer, I never heard him ever intentionally trying to mimic Perry. I think he's always strived to inject as much Steve Augeri into the songs as possible.

These are not anabolic body building steroids......This is what you get when you go to the Dr with a sore throat or sinus infection, and they prescribe a round of Prednisone...a corticosteroid for inflamation, etc...They are not good for your body long term. They are difficult on your body, make you very irritable, and can play havoc with your digestive system. A steroid inhaler would be less invasive because it is applying directly to the vocal chords when you inhale. I can't see touring on a course of steroids. They are the last line of defense when you have to perform. And I can't say that this is anything Augeri uses, I'm just speculating as a singer myself.

MIMIC IS TOO STRONG A WORD. bUT IF YOU LISTEN TO EARLY SHOWS AND YOU LISTEN TO RECENT SHOWS, YOU CAN HEAR THE DIFFERENCE. AND IT IS MY OPINION THAT IN THE BEGINNING, STEVE WAS TRYING TO SING MORE LIKE PERRY THAN HIMSELF.
