Pretty good review of cd. But does ask one question that some have floated around here. "why do you need different vocalist?"-ERIC

"To follow up a solid anthem, the group wallops you with the solid power ballad “The Place in Your Heart”."

Power ballad? That song is as far away from a ballad as you can get.

Ross Valory has his own clothing line in the works? Are you freaking kidding me? Could this be Irvings' contribution to extra dollars for the band?

Jesus.........

Abitaman, you have a PM......waiting

OOOooohhh boy.
Somebody skim through titles and just try to get away with winging the review, did they?
Jesus Mary and Joseph, they just listened to FITH and tried to get away with just surmising stuff about the rest album from titles. Unbeleivably cheeky.

TPIYH is definitely NOT a ballad. This guy must have just been trying to earn a dollar, I don't think he could have really listened to that song. However, even if he didn't really listen to the whole cd, I have to agree with him on the switching around of lead vocals thing, because I really didn't enjoy that. If they were doing it just to have a good time, that's OK, but if they were trying to make a good cd that would appeal to a lot of people, it wasn't such a good idea. IMO

I think it's great. Takes a little while to become accustomed to (afterall, most Journey albums only had one singer). I think the vocal diversity keeps the album interesting. I rarely get bored with it.

I can see where someone who's a long time fan of the band in all of it's evolutionary phases would enjoy hearing the other guys sing. It doesn't really bother me that much because I can just skip "Gone Crazy". I guess I was just thinking of the commerciality(is that a word? :?)of it, the way a newer or more casual fan would feel about it. I could be wrong though.

But, why would u want to do that?
After the tedious (almost-homogenous) incessant rock chunk of tracks 8-10, Gone Crazy is a welcome return to a tune over flowing with melody.

Or, rather don't.
It's a terrible song.
Cain must've been aghast when Augeri showed that to him.
No chorus, no bridge...just a big pile of monotonous shit.

Like my ten year old cousin incessantly hitting a keyboard with a tinker toy. Just one damned keyboard part heard again and again and again until u r compelled to hit 'skip' (or else suffer the fatal consequences of ur head spontaneously imploding ala Scanners).

I think I know why the writer called TPIYH a power ballad...it is a rock song about love/relationships. If it is a song about love/relationships it MUST be a ballad, right? And if it rocks, that must be the power! ;)

It just doesn't appeal to me TNC, but I do agree with you about Believe, sorry Joe. I haven't listened to the cd in a couple days, but I don't remember 8 - 10 being all that bad, not as good as 1 - 5, but not tedious. I'll listen to it in the car this afternoon and refresh my memory.

Hey, THERE'S a benefit of the proverbial doubt.
I don't think the dope listened to it.

Ok, TNC, I finally got a chance to listen to it all again. This makes my 4th or 5th time and I still don't like Gone Crazy or Believe. I don't think 8 and 10 are all that bad though. They tend to lose their individual distintive qualities when listened to in succesion, but the only really bad one(IMO)of the three is In Self Defense.

Right now I'd rank them in descending order as follows:

TPIYH
Butterfly
FITHL
POTF
Better Together
Out of Harm's Way
A Better Life
Beyond the Clouds
Never Too Late
Every Generation
KTYLM
Believe
In Self Defense
Gone Crazy
SSB(only because I only like the anthem to be performed within a reasonable facsimile of the way it was written)

Hey OhSherrie, just in case you were not aware, the SSB does not actually appear on "Generations". I am assuming Deano threw it in when making your disc.

He must have, someone else said they didn't have The Pride of the Family, so I guess he threw that in too. I'm glad he did, I really like Pride of the Family.

Absolutely! You summed that up perfectly, OhSherrie. Individually they are good songs, but they begin to run together. Needed something injected in between them.

ohsherrie wrote:but the only really bad one(IMO)of the three is In Self Defense

In Self Defense is def. not "A" grade material, however, I like it. If any track should have been delegated to bonus track status, it should've been this one. It doesn't stand apart enough from 8 or 10.

"Believe" on the other hand shouldn't have been delegated to bonus or even regular status..frankly, it shouldn't have been included at all.

Good review, Oh Sherrie!

Dave doesn't care for it.
Andrew doesn't care for it.
Deano doesn't care for it.
And neither do I.

It would have made more sense to put a good ballad after Out of Harms Way because that song has a great message and you tend to lose the impact of it when In Self Defense comes at you immediately after it. Better Together is a really good rocker but after In Self Defense your ears have been assaulted too much to enjoy it.

Yeah, if they wanted it on there it should have been a bonus track. Enough people seem to like Believe that I guess it has a place on there, it just doesn't do anything for me.

They may not care for it, but I don't think anyone hates it with the white hot intensity that you do, TNC.
