Perryville is running the "I Stand Alone" music video this week from the "Quest for Camelot" animated film. The video got very little airplay and the only way to see it is to buy the film, but really, who would want to do that?
So here it is.

Steve's attempt to mimic Phil Collins and Elton John's success in movie soundtracks. Didn't work out too well. IMO, that's a lousy song. Who wrote it?

Dianne Warren....also wrote big chart toppers for Bad English, Aerosmith, and not to mention, has her own psychic network.

Well actually NC, I already have the video. I bought the video for my daughter, and because the song "I Stand Alone" is on the Greatest Hits + Five, I get to enjoy the song on that CD too.

Thanks for sharing the clip.

I have it on GH + 5, too. Just never saw the video before. No way am I buying a whole dvd just to see one lousy music vid. The movie was panned by critics across the board anyways. How is the movie, Lori?

Actually, it was not Dianne Warren. It was Carole Bayer Sager and David Foster who wrote the film version. Then, when Perry got on the vocals, his name was added to the songwriting credits.

I really liked that song. Love the way his vocals soar as it goes on. Good build up.-ERIC

Um....me

Yes, I WENT OUT & GOT THE DVD - just for the video!!

**ducking garbage thrown by RND, yak, and TNC**

If I may make an observation here:

Is it just me, or does Steve look reeeaaallly IRRITATED in this video??

I've got a bootleg of the video and an interview with him about the video and he looks really stressed. I don't know when this was recorded, but it came out in '98 so he may have been either in pain or stressed about the situation surrounding Journey.

I love the song and thought he sounded great.

In the interview it doesn't look as if he was being hateful, more like he had a job to do and wanted to get it over with as soon as possible.

I thought about buying the DVD (luckily my son likes the movie) so I could have the video. I still am a 'collector' of Journey/solo stuff. In the end, I thought it would be worth the 5 bucks ar WalMart, but just have not doe it...

Wow, it would be great to hear it on the radio. I never have, what station do you listen to Greggie?

I remember when the movie was first being promo'd on tv. At the time I had NO idea he had been part of an animated movie. I was working in the kitchen and heard that song. I stopped in the middle of what I was doing and said "That's Steve Perry". My daughter laughed and said "How can you know that mom?". I told her there was just no mistaking that voice. :D

I think that it's a great song and very applicable for Perry at that time. He does it justice and I hear it quite often on the radio. It stops you dead when you hear it and people wonder why I'm standing still listening but I could care less. He used a stool to preform and looked fantastic, imo.

There is an adult contemporary/soft rock station in this region called Magic FM. I listen to it on occassion, and they play every so often. I have heard it at least three times when I have been out shopping and the song would come over the intercom. That song and Missing You, I have heard almost every time I've tuned into the station.

I used to listen to Magic sometimes, then I switched over to Q99 out of Roanoke. I'll have to try and find Magic again.

I agree. Foster is a genius. His work on those three CHICAGO albums is phenomenal. I didn't know he worked with Perry on a song... I've got to hear this track now.

Jeremey, have you heard David Foster's solo album RIVER OF LOVE? He works with an awesome singer on it named Warren Wiebe, who sadly, has since passed away. Great album if you've never heard it.

Steve's version of the song is played over the credits at the end of the movie. The version of the song used in the movie is sung by Brian White. On the soundtrack cd the writing credits for the Brian White version are Carole Bayer Sager and David Foster. On the Steve Perry version Steve's name is added to the credits. There are noticable differences in the lyrics of the two versions.

The place where Steve sings in the movie is as the singing voice of King Arthur. He does a song called United We Stand. It's done in sort of the same vocal style he used in Captured By The Moment on Street Talk, but in an even lower range. It's the highpoint of the movie for me. He has no writing credits on this song.

It's a cute movie, but nothing special. There is some great music in though. LeAnn Rimes(Looking Through Your Eyes), Celine Dion, Andrea Boccelli(The Prayer), the Corrs(On My Father's Wings), Steve was in some pretty distinguished company.

G'day people...

My 1st post in this forum. I have been 'lurking' around MR and Journey's BT sites for many, many years now. I rarely post, but maybe some of you here, Dave, Fred or Monker may know me.

I really enjoy the banter on this board and I thought I'd start to posts my thoughts as well.

Just one thing tho, if someone could just let me know how do I quote and post a reply, I'd appreciate it very much, thanks.

Cheers.

Rightly said, sherrie.

The movie was just ok. The animation was not really top notch. Warner Bros. wanted to make their 1st entry into animation (which was becoming quite 'hot' back then ) by doing something different, be it technically and musically - hence the hiring of Carole Bayer Sager and Dave Foster plus the 'blue chips' of the industry at the time for both the movie and soundtrack ( Pierce Brosnan, Gary Oldman, Jane Seymour - movie ; The Corrs, Leann Rimes, Celine Dion, Steve Perry - OST )

But other than the OST having some success, the movie really didn't go down well at the BO and with the critics.

I remember hearing ISA (w/SP) first in my Walkman while walking to work at the time (circa 98-99) and I just ( I swear ) stopped dead in my tracks when I heard the voice singing that song. Memories.

Cheers.

Ray

Hi rubiconman,

Nice to meet you and thanks for the reply. Sounds like you had the same reaction to first hearing the song as I did. I think it's one of Steve's finest vocal performances. In fact, I dug out the soundtrack and listened to it last night. The speaking parts that he does in United We Stand are fun to hear too(liberty, justice, trust, freedom, peace, honor, goodness, strength, valor). In the movie I just assumed it was the actor saying those, but on the soundtrack it was clearly Steve.

Hey, I said I hate Soul SirkUS. Now you criticize something that Perry's done.
