I've been watching this crap for about 45 mins now(9:15 - 10:00, I missed the first hour or so of it). So far, everything I've seen has either been Hip Hop, Rap or Country.

Am I the only one who sees a problem here? But then, what can be done about it? The teenagers rule the music world. :evil:

OK, I have to amend this. The Eurithmics are perfoming now and Annie is wailing.

What song(s) did the Eurythmics do? That was one of the only reasons I wanted to watch.

Sorry you missed it , Dave. I think that a new one was first, followed by "Sweet Dreans',. OMG! WYLAW is playing as I write. It's 11:15 and I turned the sound up full and woke everyone up and they just laughed.

Santana was in his element tonite with "Lost Lonely Boys and Tim Mcgraw was rightfully given top honors.

Thanks HOTS. I wasn't even aware they HAD a new song!! Unfortuantely my DISH has a problem and they cannot fix it until Friday!!

I'm amazed country even got a look in! I saw some of the MTV Awards this year and almost choked on my own vomit.

What a hideous, crap infested cesspool the Top 40 has become in this day and age.

A&R people, by their own admission, just don't care anymore. 15 years ago, it used to be about the music. What promise did an artist or group hold? What kind of vision do they have for their music and career? What kind of future will this artist have within our organization?

That's no longer the case. There's no one answer to solve the record industry's problems, studies have been done and millions have been spent in trying to find the magic bullet. But it seems since the mid '90s the industry has been on a downward march and I think they're beyond the point of help.

I quit watching as soon as the Eurithmics were through. I just couldn't take any more of it.

The music industry has just gone the same way as all industry in this country. Everything is owned by a relatively few major corporations that are in the business of making money. Whether they use music or healthcare to do it, it's about making money, not providing a good product or service.

Very true OS,

But the cool thing about this world that we live in, is that as soon as you think you know the answers, someone changes the questions.

There is more music out there via the internet, podcasts and sattelite radio then there ever has been. The biggest trouble is finding it. We just can't count on radio to play the type of new music that we like. We have to seek it out.

You know, my mom liked a little more of my music then I realized. I am a HUGE Police fan and back in the day would listen to them ALL the time. My mom loves Sting. She remembers when Rick Allen of Def Leppard lost his arm. We were doing dishes when the news came on the tv and my sister and I were freaking out! Of course music has been my life for the past 25 years and so she knows a lot about the bands I like. She always told me if I knew my school work as well as the lyrics to every song I'd be a straight A student! In recent years I have found out she also likes Tom Petty and REO Speedwagon. This is from a woman who grew up with Perry Como! I even took her to a Styx/Kansas concert once. It was "too loud" of course, but she managed. Of course I take her to Paul Revere and the Raiders and the Beach Boys from time to time.

Parents can be hip at times.

For myself, I can't rule out the music that is almost a given to certain ethnic groups or music conducive to the speech of different parts of our country.

We do sound like our parents to some degree. I'd bet every generation does.

For me, there is some really great current music out there, however, also for me, so much of it has nothing to do with talent, but rather how much eye candy one has.

I'd rather take a faceless band which makes great music over the eye candy.

Yes! They were at our fair this year and we thought it'd be fun to go. "Paul" is 68 years old! He talks alot, but is pretty funny. They still dress up and they have a singer who is the son of Bill Medley of the Righteous Brother(he's HOT). They do a lot of cover songs since they only had two hits! lol! My mom is so funny. She is 60 and we always have to sit in the stands of course. During the evening, she's like, "why didn't you bring your binoculars, you always bring binoculars" I said, "No I don't! I'm always down front, I don't NEED binoculars!" After a while she says to me, "Do you want to go down front?" I looked at her like she is off her rocker, but I think she wanted to check out the hot Medley guy too, so there we are like groupies down front at the Paul Revere concert. lol
My mom: "You're down here all the time?! It's so loud, you're going to be deaf by the time you're 50"

Gotta love parents.

Your mom sounds like a lot of fun. Is Mark Lindsey still alive? Does the new singer sing as well as Mark, if he takes after his dad he's probably better. Is Fang(Phil Volk) still with them? He was always my favorite.

What great current music is out there? Not much. I like Train, Rob Thomas, a little bit of The Killers and Maroon 5.

Darrin Medley. He's good looking, but a little too clean cut for me. Love a guy in jeans and t-shirt with humor and attitude

I had a choice in 2003 to interview them(Paul Revere) or Styx on their tour bus - LOL

My Mom likes Dennis (music and personality) and both of my parents had a great time at his concerts each time and knew most of the music

I think there is some great young talent out there and some great pop acts.
But I just can't take this puke served up as R&B and rap anymore.

I remember when there used to be a line between the two - there were pop songs and even Black artists singing pop (Whitney Houston for example), but now EVERYTHING has to be sampled beats and features 5 other artists guesting to cover up the fact the main artist is a talntless hack.

You know what else bothers me Andrew? Singers, Whitney is a great example, used to open up their throats and SING a lyric. Now they all sound as if they're nearly out of breath and can barely utter a sound. I've heard so much about what fabulous voices Mariah and Alicia Keys have, well when am I going to hear them?

And while I'm on this rant, since when is speaking offensive lyrics to a bass and drum beat singing? Rap is not music. It might just barely qualify as bad poetry with a quasi-musical background. :roll:

Question: Why does country need to be addressed on the AMA's when they just had their CMA's? Ya know there are country awards shows, r&b (soul train or vibe) awards shows, where is the ROCK awards show??

Can you just imagine Jesse Jacksons' head spinning round and round as he made his way to the protest site for a "White Music Awards" night?
