For those wondering why Deen hasn't been singing lately....

In a Hawaiian radio interview today (which was transcribed over on BackTalk) Neal stated that Dean ruptured a vocal chord and is actually not supposed to talk for 6 months.

Neal also revealed that (much like "Out of Harms Way") "Faith in the Heartland" was initially written for PlanetUS/SoulSirkus and when JSS wasn't feeling it, Neal tossed it Jon's way.
Big suprise there

Seems to me that Neal is reserving his premium material for side projects.
I had a hunch of this when the EXTREMELY Journey sounding "Believe in Me" landed on a JSS record and NOT a Journey record (where it rightfully belonged).

I read that, too.

But he sounded great at the Beacon this week.

He sang Still They Ride, Patiently, a verse of Feeling That Way and a verse of Escape. That's alot more than he sang at The Greek in October.

that is always interesting to me...why would you sacrifice your health when you have a choice.

Ask Perry the same question..because it feels good, I guess.

Like Perry himself said, "The music just dictated, and boy, I had to have it."

Hhmmmmm
Sounds like to me the band is going in all sorts of directions
Neal teetering material between SS & J
I imagine Neal has more credits or more to gain on SS
It;s his project and as so he wants to give it a good chance too.
He may have more to gain on SS then he has with Journey
as it's probably spread out more with management n things

Now ach memeber taking a turn at the mike
Mor like open mike with Journey night :D
Gosh I'd be interested in hearing what they all sound like
but it could upset the flow and direction of the band.
Wonder how Steve A feels about that
Perhaps he doesn;t have the voice for all the songs or the vocal stamina
Who knows?

Deam must be pretty good to attempt
Patiently and Still They Ride
Not quite vocal 101

See the problem is they are not singers
theres alot more to singing than opening your mouth
He ruptured a chord becasue he wasn't warmed up
Or else he went out above his range.
Lots of thiings affect the vocal chords
humidity, alcohol, smoking even milk products
Its not easy to sing from A to Z for 2 or 3 hours
Steve Perry himself said he used to not talk before shows n such to rest his voice

The voice is not a drumhead or guitar string
If you bang it too hard or stretch it to far and itt breaks
you can't just put on a new one
The band is trying to sing songs in a manner there voice is not accustomed
to and subjecting there vocal chords to nodes and rupture damage

How you figure? SS is Neal's experiment/playtime, nothing more.

Just reading this shit, I know what's coming..pure, uneducated guessing..

Gosh I'd be interested in hearing what they all sound like

Then buy a ticket..it isn't that difficult.

but it could upset the flow and direction of the band.

IF you saw a show, rather than guessed it out, you would know that this past summer was their best concerts ever..

Wonder how Steve A feels about that

He's fine with it, really. You think he thinks he could sing 3 hours a night? Hell no.

Perhaps he doesn;t have the voice for all the songs or the vocal stamina
Who knows?

NO ONE has the stamina for 3 hour shows..Before you say Bruce Springsteen, remember that even though he played 6 hours shows, a lot of the time he tells stories, and his music isn't as tough to sing as Journey's.

Deam must be pretty good to attempt
Patiently and Still They Ride
Not quite vocal 101

Oh, he's good alright..However, he didn't attempt these songs just this year..He sang last year too...Dude IS a singer..

See the problem is they are not singers

The problem is you really have NO idea of what you are saying. Deen IS a singer..a very gifted one. Steve is a singer.. Neal, and Ross aren't but they are only doing one song. Jonathan is certainly ok for his 4 songs..

theres alot more to singing than opening your mouth
He ruptured a chord becasue he wasn't warmed up
Or else he went out above his range.

And you know this how? Talk to Deeno on the phone last night? He might have one of the higher ranges in music today, and dude is a drummer! How can you say things you simply do not know about?

to and subjecting there vocal chords to nodes and rupture damage

I guess JOURNEY ought to hire YOU with all your professional guessing. You don't think these guys KNOW what the hell they're doing?

PS, your spelling and grammar sucks...what are you, a southerner?

The flow of the band?
Generations was their most sophistocated and ambitious tour yet....they hafta be feeling pretty cool with their "flow," I guess.

Oh..Ppppssssssttttt: Journey is Neal's band, too just like his current pretty cool (and very in the red to hear him tell it) side project SS. The real Journey's operating in the black.

Well, I do give them credit for one thing
They are trying to make it work
and having fun doing what they want to do.
As for myself
I am only one of millions of others
who can choose or choose not to listen or buy music.

I saw the new line up very early on
It was enjoyable
But I have the Cd's and I'll listen to the original.
So I think its a good move that they try to move away from the past.
Perhaps it will be enough to allow them to do what they want to do.

Who cares about one listener anyway
Play on....

I heard a smapling of Soul Sirkus
and I was quite impressed.
It stands on its own
nothing to prove or live up too

Anyway this is not rocket science here
Let them play what they want & the way they want
and I'll say what I feel....

No I am not from the south In fact I live in sunny So CA
and I happen to have a college degree and its not in typing.
I happen to sing and even have studied the drums
So thank you nice to meet you too
even though you need to lose that stinger in your arse.

WTF? It's ASS here in America..Those Eurofags say ARSE....

Anyway, I bet we are neighbors....If your degree is from USC, I for one won't recognize it. To Hell with those bastards.

PS- I was making a "joke" about the South. No harm intended.

Although I think SS will amount to nothing more than a failed Neal experiment, that is not Neal's intent. He has made it repeatedly clear that SS is as much of a full time band for him as Journey (if not more so).
