I just read where somebody said that current Journey is just as good as the Houston concert was. Come on....................you either gotta be retarded, in total denial of reality or both to think that. Why does it hurt some of you so much to realize that Houston 81 was Journey at its total peak?

And with all due respect, Journey has a singer that can't even cover all the hit songs. So my goodness, just use your critical thinking skills before saying something retarded. The end, November 1981. And I don't know of anyone here who thinks Journey 2005 could touch Journey 1981. Of course, we all have our own opinions. I love the new lineup, and am very happy the band is still playing live and recording. But that 1981 concert is the ultimate Journey live recording. I have always maintained that.

And the Journey 2001 live DVD is awesome, too. As is Generations. How many bands from that era are still putting out quality live and studio music? Not many.

I agree, but believe it or not, some people don't like Perry. Many of my friends and family don't know why I like Journey. Of course, millions of people disagree, but Perry is not universally loved and adored like Perryheads think he is.

Wow. I love the new lineup, but not THAT much. You know the VHS of the Houston show has been my prized possession. To have the DVD is incredible to me. Nothing against the 2001 DVD, it is fantastic. But the Houston show is mind blowing.

Don't agree with this at all. The band's playing is so much tighter these days. Neal's playing is eons above what is presented on Houston.

I think the band sounds better these days. Escape-era Perry might have more range then current day Augeri, but Perry's voice was also alot more grating. It's got this shrill, oil squeak type quality to it. It gets on my nerves. After long periods, I need to shut him the hell off. I don't have that problem with Augeri. High pitched, but not gratingly so.
Still, both great singers in my book.

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. After seeing them this year, I know they can put on a better show than the 2001 DVD. And as I said I am looking forward to the 2005 DVD. While the 2001 DVD is tight, I prefer the energy of the 81 DVD. Hoping that the 2005 DVD will be a combination of both.

I always skip to La Raza Del Sol and let it play from there.

I guess I am retarded. 81 was mindblowing, 2001 was strong, tight, but 2005 beats em both. Not only they play over twice as lobg as they did in 81, they played much more diverse material.

The new dvd is LOADED and I mean stuffed with energy. It's not as professinally tight a Journey as is represented on 2001, a more veteran, less stage animated group. Though looser, there IS something to be said about that as to a great extent, from that is born that palpable energy of a band at it's commercial zenith. But it's definatlely sloppier than the 01 ARRIVAL dvd (as alluded to by Dave, just a tighter, better sounding outfit in 01). The material is hindered by the early date of the show. Yes, it's heavier than HELL on Escape (what 8 or 9 out of 10 songs on the record?) which is a good thing, but No Frontiers, ROR (Nobody fucking laugh), no Arrival, as pointed out earlier by Dean. NO LA RAZA DEL SOL. The best song on the 2001 dvd and in excess sonically of the record version, as pointed out by the Cause. The Cain/Schon/Castronovo Sanata Check THIS out extended jam Seal that. The Escape dvd rocks harder and heavier. Perry near the top if not the tp of His game. You have Neal Schon in great form on both. Looser in one, tighter in the next, I can't choose between those Neals and thank God I won't have to. But in my opinion, overall the Journey 2001 dvd edges it on performance, and song selection. I may be biased because the current real life Journey is my favorite incarnation of the band and Generations in my top 2 if not my favorite album.

I wouldn't mind seeing a performance of Arrival and Generations material from the band, but I just don't want to see anyone but Perry doing the Classic material. C'mon guys, Augeri's a good singer, but he can't beat Perry at his peak on that material. I would even rather see Perry now do that material than anyone else even it it didn't sound the same. Augeri doesn't sound the same. If Perry were to do the material today(with a conditioned voice) it would just be an arguement about which voice you prefer, not which voice is closer to '81. Neither of them can duplicate The Voice of '81. I would just prefer to hear Perry's soulful depths over Augeri on Classic Journey material.
