I have, and it won't let you....I just wanted to store it in my media file... I realize there are programs that can overide this, but why bother?

There's plenty of ways around the copy protection.

You guys are bad. Just don't share it illegally. Journey and Perry deserve the dough.

Haven't tried. What kind of error do you get? Have you tried DVD Decryptor?

Sony did put a copy protection on the disc. So unless you know exactly what you are doing and how to avoid it; you won't be able to copy.

Sony has been putting hidden software on some of there artists dvds in the last year and recently applogized and is trying to take care of the software removal.
This DVD was not supposed to be one that has it.

Sony has recalled the affected CD's as the program acted in such a manner as to leave the computer open to attack by malicious threats.

I am hoping this disk was not affected as it was not coded becasue if it was
its hard to remove the program and most people are not aware of it and are at serious risk.

while your on the subjsct of copy dvds, and etc..... I am getting a dvd burner for my computer this year (Christmas), how do you copy copy protected dvds and movies.
I am not wanting to sell dvd copies, but I am wanting to put my some 300 to 400 movies on to dvd. And make copies of all my kids dvds (which I have to repklace at least once a year because they get scratched up.) I bought a dvd recoreder and took it back the next day when it would not let me make a copy of my kids SHrek dvd. Any ideas?-ERIC

I bought a VHS/DVD-R because I thought I could transfer my VHS to DVD. No such luck with the copy-protection. I went ahead and joined Blockbuster.com and just rent the DVDs I want to copy. I don't feel too bad about it since I DID already buy the VHS AND I am paying for a rental as well. But to transfer VHS to DVD, you need to by a decoder that hooks up in between the VHS and the DVD-R. You can find them online, they ranga about $80-$120.

There is software out there to get around this, and I am pretty sure there is already a Windows XP tweak that will delete this software. I'll try to find the tweak and post it, but there is a way to hack your registry where all programs running on your XP machine will show up in your Add/Remove Programs list so that you can uninstall those programs. Of course, you gotta know what the program name is, and I am pretty sure it would reinstall itself the next time you put the cd in.

that were installed the day I [layed the Houston dvd and there were none so I was pretty sure that the I think its called xcp encoded spftware was not on the disc.

Yes microsoft was getting a fix to add to its malicious tools program.
but it could have gone undected and compromised the security of alot of computers.

Actually, I wouldn't try to remove that exe file, you'll screw your operating system up. Since this software runs in diagnostic mode, you won't be able to uninstall it using safe mode either.

I just was trying to see if there were an executable files created the day of the Houston Disc just to double check the dxds safety

Best way is through uninstall of course but even that doesnlt remove it from the registry

From what I have researched, you won't even be able to use uninstall at add/remove - that is assuming that you were able to hack the registry to unhide hidden files so that it would show up in add/remove programs (which this rootkit will not.)

What I have discovered so far is that sony makes you request a patch that will uninstall the software. However, they keep your information on file, so they know who is requesting to have the software uninstall. The other problem with the uninstall patch is that it doesn't work on every machine, or either if it works - it's buggy and can still leave your computer at risk.

I know there is a "work around" on this, and I am trying to find it. When I do, I will post it.
