For those of you who would like to see one of the excitements of my job, and it's not good excitement, here is a tape of a crash on Valentine's Day, my third of the year. No lives lost. The truck driver, a woman, hauling strawberries hails from, ahem, South Dakota..She was obviously disoriented...

I have talked to her some afterwards....She is nice lady. All I suffered was a racing heart for 2 minutes.

We were doing 58mph at time of impact. Slowing for a stop. This is a long distance commuter train, only 5 cars...Usually I am on the 13 car, long distance monster, and there would be no way to decelerate to 58 if we were on that one..

Well yeah, when the 3600HP told me we weren't stopping in time, I kind of had to agree with him. "He" does whatever he wants..I only hope to control him... He wasn't too keen on stopping on a dime for Christ sake !

Looks like someone hit the the puree button instead of the brakes....

I don't envy any one who drives for a living.

I was on the new Metro earlier this month
My first time and twice we had a wait for some stupid motorist to back out of the bus lane....

I think there should be a third choice.
They should lose there license and the right to have kids.
In the hope that myself and my loved ones are less likely to be maimed and killed by such a person and the offspring that they produce.
After all we all know the strawberry doesn't fly too far from the truck....
But what the heck do I know
I don;t work for Smucker's
Maybe they told her to park the train on the tracks
this way they could by pass the purree process...

Hmmmm you didn;t see men with white coats runnning over with jars did ya?

No, I was referring to the suicidal strawberry queen....who parked the truck on the tracks

ok, just checking.....she is lucky, as I, to be alive. she is lucky I decided to brake early for some reason....we could have sliced her at 79mph if we were going the speed limit.

Well, thank heavens for that little voice inside of us...

You don't mess around with mega tons of trains coming at you at that speed.

Hmmmm last train I remember was in about 99.
Journey was playing in Glen Ellen and I had won tickets.
It was on a hot summer day and my friend drove to San Bernadino.
she had no AC and it was a Friday afternoon and the traffic was murder.
It must have been 110 in the car and it was so hot that my eyes were sweating!
Anyway after about a 2 hour drive out of LA we were almost there
Driving along this dusty dirt road in the middle of no where just aching to get out of that car.
We had to stop at this railroad crossing and the train kept coming and coming and coming.
Must have been the longest train I ever saw.
thirty plus cars and 5 minutes later and a few wrong turns
we were there....

Boy I was never so happy to get out of a car.....

I was just guessing at the number of cars.
It seemed the train went on forever
I was about to pass out from heat exhaustion
and they just kept coming and coming forever!

130
maybe
All I know is it was long!

Right next to a liquor store/deli right? On Cajon pass, and there were three tracks..i know exactly where you were.
The speed limit is 20 mph for freights..
