What Perry can/cannot do?

Which songs thus put out by the current lineup could you in no uncertain terms ever imagine being sung by Perry or the previous existing lineup?
For me....

Live and Breathe
State of Grace
The Time
Believe
World Gone Wild
Higher Place
Better Together

I include these songs for various reasons, but mainly because, well, they simply rock too much.
Can anyone really imagine Steve Perry tackling something bluesy and more harder-edged like 'The Time' or 'Better Together'- I can't.
Oddly, I can imagine a young Steve P. tackling 'Out of Harms Way'..for some reason that tune has a very Escape-vibe to me. I can also imagine Perry lending vocals for more traditional poppy Journey-fare the likes of "To Be Alive Again", "I Got a Reason" and "Signs of Life".

Plenty. And it's not thatI don't think he could pull it off. but that he wouldn't FEEL like tackling any of them.
Those songs the Cause listed above? Don't think we'd have them with Perry still fronting the band. That's not to say there wouldn't be some rockers though. Just far different and fewer between than those.

Yep I have to agree there. Well said, because I was having some trouble replying to the topic. Well, I don't need to now.

It definately is a tough topic raised by the NobleBeliever.
Knee jerk reactions say, "No way. Can't rock anymore AT ALL."

but Trial By Fire had MOL, OM, CTTL, and CB as straight-ahead rock. How much have his rock chops degenrated to the attrition of 9 years? We just can't say right now, studiowise at least.

I would think it easier to sing faster, rock songs, than slower, detailed ballads.

Good topic TNB.

In general it would be easier to sing fast rock songs but it also depends on the voice.
For me its harder to sing fast as you have to try to be precise and annunciate and an average voice can be disguised better in fast choppy songs

Personall I think its easier to sing slower ballads
just depends on the vibrato of the voice
For me slow melodic songs really allow a voice to resonate
I think for Steve Perry he also would find it easier to sing ballads
as it really allows the voice to soar.\
He has that kind of voice that is not content to stay in the box

:D
