I hate American Idol. I really do.
However, how do you think real rock n roll singers would do on that show?
Could you see Sammy, Augeri, Perry, Shania, Faith Hill , DeYoung, The Toto dude, Joe Elliot, Bryan Adams, Brian Johnson, Coverdale and his wretched looking grill, Kevin Cronin and others doing songs and impressing Randy?
What would the judges say when Shania sang great, or Perry sounded like shit, or Brain Johnson sounded like he was taking a shit for that matter..
Seriously, you think the current singers could outsing Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, , Gay Aiken, or that black kid he beat who looks like the Nutty professor?
Lets hear it.

I never watch that show and you shouldn't either. It rots your brain and is an abomination.

I don't watch American Idol. I really don't know how real singers would fair in that show. It seems that those judges are judging singers on what most of the public wants to hear. Which is not what I really want to hear. I love my classic rock, and I don't think Simon would be impressed with who I like to listen to. Randy, I wouldn't know if he likes the classic rock that I do.

Yes Deano,
I remember that Randy was in Journey. I was making reference to other classic rock bands I like. I should of been more clear on that.

Some of the ones you mentioned would do well..Faith, Augeri, Perry-in his day... and are on a different plane than anyone who has won Idol (I think Kelly Clarkson is very good). But I think that alot of the "greats" wouldn't do well: Coverdale, Brian Johnson, Tyler, Jagger, Stewart, Johnny Cash, etc.
What alot of "great" singers have going for them is that their voices have a unique identifiable character, not that they have the best voices or ability. I think this unique-ness is really more important than having the best technique or the best sounding voice.
I think this is what won the last one for Bo Bice, he has a unique and different sound to every thing that is out there currently.

I'll admit that I had gotten hooked on the show this past year. I really watched it basically for the laughs I got in the first few weeks where they have everybody auditioning for it. After they pick the ones they want, I kind of grow tired of it...so basically I watch for comedy relief! However, if real rock singers tired out for it, I believe Augeri would do well, Perry would do okay....but wouldn't win the whole thing in my opinion. Brian Johnson...hahaha not sure on that one!
Bo Bice and that other dude were the only ones who made AI have any sense of credibility (although I did enjoy looking at Carry Underwood..what a babe!) If it wasn't for at least Bo Bice, I wouldn't have watched it past the first couple weeks.

All I know is Bob Dylan would have been laughed out of the room. So would Mick Jagger.

That was my point/question...
Is it how good the voice is, or how good you sing?

I am not too much of an American Idol fan either, though I did watch when Bo Bice sang the song from Bad Lands acapella. My heart almost stopped. As far as I was concerned, he blew everyone else out of the water prior to him and after him - indefinitely.
Journey On!

Bit of both...wouldn't you say?
