I have heard of other groups doing this in the past, and wanted to know what you thought. Should Journey rerecord their Greatest Hits cd with the new line up. Now a straight forward rerecord, but add to the songs, since the group now has two excellent vocalist, plus 3 more, and now to guitarist. I know Perry wouldn't go for the idea, but it could prove interesting on some of the songs. Augeri and Deen doing a duet on Party's Over. Think of the possibilities of that on Still They Ride, two vocals and two guitars.
Not that I am taking anything away from the Perry area, just thought it would be a good idea. I know we get these songs redone live on cd OR dvd, but a recording in the studio, would be awesome.......-ERIC

You are right, it has been discussed before.
Warrant did a CD called "Latest and Greatest" where they re-recorded their hits to reflect how they were being played in concert. I loved it.
I would love it if Journey did that too. Not to erase what they did with Perry, but to better represent how they are playing the hits now.

Don't you think that if they could re-record the GH CD they would have by now? There is one reason they have not.

Steve Perry? I know was bored last night, after packing for my trip to Biloxi, and was listening to GH, and the thought was how cool would that be!-ERIC

I like this idea as the voice in my head when I think of the old songs they do live is Augeri's. I'd like to hear them do more of the old ones, but in the studio is surely not going to happen. I rarely listen to any recordings done with Perry anymore. Hopefully, the Dallas DVD will include a CD as well, thats the best we can hope for regarding re-recording old material.

Well, we know for a fact that other than special consideration for DVDs/live there has been legal reasons why the band cannot re-record the hits of the past. But to be honest, even if they could I do not think they would. Maybe
one song, but not a whole CD's worth. I just do not see Neal and Jon wanting to take on a recording project that simply revisits the past. The do that in concert. I think that is enough for them.

I am the same way now. That is why the Escape DVD/CD was nice...it was a refresher to me. Brought me back a little.

Absolutely!! I truly think that is the way to go now. The Escape package showed that it works.

I agree, while it would be interesting to hear, for the band there would be no point in doing it, as they need to move forward, not backward.

Yeah, we shouldn't get out hopes up but it would be a shame if it doesn't happen. If it doesn't, will it be because the band decided not to go to the additional expense of including a cd, as Perry's project had one he should have had to agree to them doing the same.

I've loved this idea for a while.
Maybe not necessasarilly a track-by-track recording of "Gr Hits" or "Essentials," but an album of the real-life Journey in studio covering Perry-era tunes, some hits and some album cuts.

Unfortunately (very), I don't ever see the Dallas DVD seeing the light of day.

I think it would be Journey going the easy/less expensive way. Their packaging was horrible for F&B ("staying true to the VHS") and virtually nonexostent on Live 2001. I personally hope they don't let Perry show them up. But the fact is, they know how many copies they are going to sell already. And they know they will sell them no matter what sort of packaging is included. So why bother?

People keep saying this but the footage is already in the can, professionaly done unlike the infamous Warfield empty promise. They spent $ making it an aural, visual spectacle....
I hope the predictions of doom are not true.
That said, I do like the idea of an accompanying cd of the dvd audio ala Houst...

Deano has been saying that DVD will be released around April. At BT all the talk says around November.
Still nothing official, although Jon did say he was looking forward to working on it.

No. I didn't say that either. I don't ever think we'll see it.

See. I always liked this picture. But it was never "officially" authorized for use so I cannot have it on BT.

I don't understand why there's so much doubt that the DVD will be released. They've already gone to the expense of shooting it. They knew the minimum that would sell when they decided to film.
I read an interview with David Coverdale about the new Whitesnake DVD. If he ccould get what he wanted out of a company for it, Journey fer damn sure could.

BTW, at least one member of Back Talk has mentioned being interviewed for the DVD. She even included that she had to sign release forms. So there must have been a real intention to release some form of this concert. If it doesn't happen I will be extremely interested as to why.
