David Lee Roth - (Perry mention)

A friend of mine informed me that the topic of Steve Perry was brought up on Diamond Dave's new radio show last week. My friend said the topic was singers who lip synch, lower keys, and engage in all-around furtive ploys to make singing more easily accomplished. Then, according to my friend, someone subsequently called up the program and claimed to have seen Perry live recently and that he turned high notes down.
I wish I had more details.
I don't know if the caller clarified seeing Perry with Journey, solo, or what.

The only possibilities I can think of are..

1) Maybe this person saw "original Journey vocalist" Robert Fleishman make his cruddy guest appearance at the Hollywood show and mistook him for Perry?
2)Maybe this guy saw Augeri on a rough night and thought he was Perry?
3)Maybe this guy saw Perry's haggard performance in Chicago?
4) Maybe it was a crank call and I am now playing into the callers trap by actually giving a goddamn.

Sorry for being so sketchy.
Did anyone else hear this?

Oh, and for the record, Dave's show sucks. Really intolerable.
If things don't improve, I will have no choice but to start routinely prank calling the show.
Perhaps screaming "Bababooey" and then hanging up.

Dood, you really need to pick up XM. Opie and Anthony blow anyone on the radio away. Only started listening about 3 weeks ago and they are High-Larious.

When have you heard Opie and Anthony on XM? First of all, anyone who got into radio as a "shock jock" basically got their start because of Stern, so that's like saying anyone making rock and roll is an Elvis copier. O&A are nothing like Stern, except the fact that Anthony does a dead-on Stern impression. Stern gave up on radio and his show went downhill, the whole time he blamed the FCC for this rather than just admitting his passion for radio had died out. Now he's got $500 million of Sirius' money, and they've bet the company on this guy. No cash for new technology or developing new ideas anymore, they're just selling this pig in a poke to Stern followers who, 8 months down the road, are going to realize somebody pulled one over on them and XM's left them in the dust.

I like you Jeremey, and realize this is a friendly argument, but if you don't like Stern that's fine, but to argue his success is is just stupid. Dude has been the leader for every radio jock alive, has the most succesful radio show in history, and even helped out the likes of Opie and Anthony. Mark and Brian are the only semi known jocks out there trying to thrive on terrestrial radio, but it's just a matter of time. The future is satellite. And Stern has an incredible visionary quality. Looks like he made the correct decision..He is now America's richest ever celebrity.

Let me help ERIC out here. XM is fine, for music, but not much else.

Sirius has NCAA,NFL,NASCAR,NHL and Stern.

You pay an additional 12 dollars for Stern, but other than that, the subscription rate is roughly the same.

ERIC, 60 cents a day, to hear Stern unedited is worth it for the first 5 minutes. You have no idea how funny the show is. W is definitely taking some heat this week.

I saw that same Diver Down tour on video recently... one of my friends has it taped from God knows where... he's had it for several years. The quality was terrible, but the band was astounding. Eddie was fantastic, and DLR was incredible. It was everything a band should be. DLR had the crowd in his hands... and even I got into it. True he didn't sing every lyric in every song, but he performed as much as was needed... and he ENTERTAINED the crowd immensely. He did everything a frontman should do!!!

I personally think 1984 is Van Halen's BEST album. I also like the four song EP that DLR came out with... CRAZY FROM THE HEAT is what it was called, I think. I don't have it at the moment. Also, EAT EM AND SMILE (with Steve Vail and Billy Sheehan) is awesome. I haven't cared for anything else since. He needs somebody good to collaborate with... somebody with chops like Steve and Eddie. In my opinion, DLR screwed up bigtime by losing both Vai and Sheehan... for whatever reason. That band had the potential to be better than Van Halen, and because of DLR's ego, it disappeared.

I love Eat 'Em And Smile, too. I just mean I didn't like the goofy persona Dave created with the California Girls and Yankee Rose vids. DLR was an ultra cool frontman, then became too clownish for me.

What do you mean? He had all the chicks in his videos... it was great!

A funny story about the YANKEE ROSE video. One time, I was watching MTV (back when that album was out), and my dad walked by. He happened to see the part in the video where DLR's ass flashes the camera (DLR was wearing those butt pants). He promptly asked me if I had that tape. I said yes. He asked me for it. I handed it over, and he trashed it!!!!

A friend later bought me the tape again on my birthday because he thought that was so hilarious!

Opening night in Memhis, TN 1984 tour, highlight of the show was one of the lightmen hanging upside down during the show, because his mechanics failed on his light.

Let me clarify: Anthony is a master impressionist. He "does" Stern to a T. This is one of the primary reasons I like these guys. They are comedians, through and through, comedians are primarily the guests, and Jim Norton is a member of the show....Anthony does really fucking good impressions. It's not just a talk radio "shock" type show, it's really like 3 hours of stand up comedy. I don't know what they sounded like on FM.

Won't argue with you there. Not one bit. But O&A are trailblazers on satellite radio, and much of Stern's first day (the Pat OBrian tapes, etc) had been done by O&A months earlier.

I won't argue his success or influence, that's for sure. I guess my only point was that the guy has probably seen his best and most inventive days, and I doubt a new career on satellite is going to provide the spark to keep him fresh for the remainder of his contract...

Just to add to this....the value of the stock went up because of the rediculous surge of new subscriptions Stern has brought within the last 30 days.

Also - I recall Stern talking about when he was making his decision to go with Sirius or XM, and said that XM indicated they wouldn't be able to "produce" the receivers in the demand forecasted....Is anyone making a hybrid car stereo these days? I had heard there were good live shows being broadcast on XM.

BTW, the Adam Carolla show, which seems to be the replacement on the west coast, is sooooo GD bad....After numerous Stern prankers, on Thursday Adam sounded like he was going to abandon the show "Let's call it a day after the break, do we have a best of tape we can roll yet?" Train-wreck

The $500 million is for the ENTIRE show. It pays all the salaries, show expenses, etc.

JAN. 12 12:02 P.M. ET Shares of Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. jumped Thursday, after the satellite radio company's Chief Executive Mel Karmazin reported buying 1 million shares of Sirius stock.

Karmazin, who became CEO of Sirius in November 2004, bought 1 million shares at roughly $6.21 apiece, increasing the amount of Sirius shares that he directly owns to 5.5 million, according to a regulatory filing.

Sirius shares rose 30 cents, or 4.9 percent, to $6.42 in midday trading on the Nasdaq. The stock has traded between $4.42 and $7.98 over the past 52 weeks.
