American Beatles?

Yep. I have racked my brain. I can't think of a band that has done more in less time. Sure, Styx was great in the 80's, REO had their 3years of fame, GnR is a different genre, and so is Bruce Springsteen.
Journey was a major player in the industry. From concert lighting, roadie ops, and Big screens. Inventing and perfecting the power ballad. Having astonishing musicianship. It is not a reach to say at one time, Journey consisted of the best singer to ever walk on a stage...the best guitar player arguably..an incredible drummer..and a prolific songwriter..and they had the absolute best Manager in the industry pulling the strings.
Here is the Beatles similarities and questions.
Both bands have incredible, mile long catalogues of hit songs.
Both are world reknown
Both have timeless music
However, did the Beatles have arguments like Journey fans? We do daily brawls, like Northern Ireland bombs the Limeys.
Yes the internet was not in existence then, but if it were, would Harrison fans bash Lennon, and McCartney fans unload on Ringo's people?

Kevin Chalfant has always maintained that Journey is the American version of The Beatles.
Personally, I don't really like the Beatles so I am bowing the hell out of this thread.

Feel free to reply, but remember, people have feelings. Let's not
cross the line, ok folks?
Let's all engage in friendly, yet constructive debate.
Have a wonderful night all.

Nothing. That boozing, swearing figure of a person is no longer.
I am new. I am all about love and harmony. I am all about sweetness
If you don't agree with the new and improved me, please refrain from public outcry, as Andrew wishes nothing but unification. I respect that man, and darn it, you all should too!

Riiiight, we've heard that before. If I remember correctly, this lasts about two or three days and then BAM! the old Deano appears. I'll be patient...

On topic: if Internet would have been around in the Beatles era I have a feeling that Yoko Ono would`ve had a very hard time.Much worse than the so called Loons have here.
I agree that Journey left a unique mark in music`s history, just like The Beatles.
Off topic:unity?love?tuberoses?togetherness?
Angie, wait for me.We`re going ice skating.

Yoko popped into my mind, too. She would have been a hot topic if the internet was around back then. Sadly, we had to wait for Gore to invent it.

Laugh all you want, but then Senator Gore(D-TN), was the sponsor of the bill and chief architect to get the Internet up and running.

No apologies needed! To forgive is to forget. I have forgave and forgotten. The sun is out, and the flowers are swaying in the breeze. Sounds of the birds ring beauty in my ears....for I can look out at God's loving world, fulfilled at the companianship and true friends I have at this very site. It truly is a wonderful time to be alive!
I need to step away for just a bit, and say a prayer. I will come back, and we can possibly engage in a lovely chat about the latest Journey doings. After all, this a Journey board!
WOOHOO!

See, this is the beauty of typing without being seen. There is no way on God's green earth Deano is able to keep a straight face while typing these posts. I know I can't keep a straight face reading them!

That may be true...But, *I* invented the Journey internet, not Al Gore.
There is no such thing as an "American Beatles". The Beatles had all of that success AND fundamentaly changed pop music. I can't think of any American band that did everything the Beatles did.

ROTLMAO... Yes, Monker, I *do* believe I've heard you mention that once before...
And gonna have to agree with you on the on-topic point -- there is NO "American Beatles", unless of course you go pre-Beatles and grab Elvis. Some things just can't be repeated. Elvis was the first rock star. The Beatles revolutionized popular music and everything that came after has fallen under their shadow.
To look at in another way, when I was attending my all-girls high school I learned to walk down the halls and NOT respond whenever I heard "Hey Michelle". How many girls named "Sherrie" or "Suzanne" had to do that in the current generation?

Journey has been compared to several things, the Beatles sure aint one of them. The only thing the two have in common is that they are both recording artists. Journey has been relegated to third tier status (at best). A sort of 'where are they now' catagory. They haven't made a dent in industry in 20 years. There aren't too many rock and roll journalists (if any, aside from Andrew) that embrace Journey. You can try in vain to connect the dots to reach the Beatles, but you really have to reach.
Sorry to rain on your parade.

The Beatles did some good stuff sure but they are truly an overrated band that everybody just have to like coz otherwise you don´t know music but if you´ll ask me,I think Paul McCartney and Wings were so much better.
Journey stand in their own league, end of story!

You got that right. That`s why they got so much attention and their history is discussed to this day. It`s not easy to be a pioneer;sure, that position brings timeless recognition but it also attracts jealousy and hatred. It`s human nature to try and eliminate what`s not average...
I guess The Beatles had the same problems.Poor Lennon was killed because of being different.
I have to disagree with The Beatles being overrated. They truly made a huge impact in music, maybe because they came at the right time with the right stuff. So did Hendrix and Cream.
Oh,just for amusement,we could call Journey the American Beatles for at least one reason:both bands had half-fainted women in their audiences.

I do not particularly like the Beatles but I can see the impact they had on music...and their popularity and endurance.
The closest comparison I can think of is Nirvana. I do not like that band AT ALL...but, again, I can not deny their influence. But, they did not have any where near the popularity of the Beatles so they still did not have as much of an impact...and I don't think their music has stood up well either.
