It'll soon be summer: Chastain's lineup set
Here's a warm thought to take your mind off that four-figure heating bill --- the Chastain Park Amphitheatre summer concert series is slated to begin April 15 with the Black Eyed Peas and the Pussycat Dolls.
The first series of shows, set to be officially announced Wednesday, also includes: rockers Train May 6; disco act K.C. and the Sunshine Band with Gloria "I Will Survive" Gaynor on May 20; songstress/poet Jewel May 28; Matchbox 20 vocalist Rob Thomas May 29; 1970s and '80s band Blondie on a double bill with "a very special rock band reunion" June 17; Simon Cowell-manufactured operatic boy band Il Divo June 18; blues guitarist and singer Bonnie Raitt with Keb Mo June 20; '60s sex symbol Tom Jones with Tower of Power June 22; British piano phenom Jamie Cullum July 9;
'80s hair bands Journey and Def Leppard July 13; and Chicago and Huey Lewis and the News July 16.
Alas, last season's fave, "A Prairie Home Companion" host Garrison Keillor, hasn't announced a 2006 Chastain date as yet. . . .
Series/mini series tickets go on sale Sunday at 10 a.m. For info:
www.livenation.com or 404-233-2227.

"80s hair bands" Man I hate that. Did U2 and R.E.M. not have hair?
Sorry, no coffee yet. "80s supergroups"? Getting better. Simply, Journey and Def Leppard. There ya go.

Yeah, Journey is not a hair band, and neither is Lep. I would call bands like Poison, Bon Jovi, Crue, and Warrant hair bands.

I still have my reservations of this happening, but you see who is listed first?
The DL sites say "the Leps will probably headline," like they are just more super than our super guys! Not!

This is a bad matchup. It's like Duke told Apollo in Rocky II.
"They're all wrong for us. (talking about Rocky and Mighty Mick)."

Contrary to what BT says, Def Leppard fans DO NOT want this. I don't know how BT spins things. If you go to DL's site, it's 7 vs 3 against. Same here. No one here wants this.
But hey, I am smiling!

I want it, if they do it like the DL/Bryuan Adams tour where they both played pretty much full length sets.
One less ticket I'll have to cough up money for because I'll see both in one nite.
Sure, the audiences are a tad bit different, but hey, it doesnt hurt either to have a few Journey fans get turned onto whatever DL record is current by then, or a few DL fans picking up Gens.

They should tour with Bryan Adams, but BA would headline. TNC, 13, you hear those live Adams discs I sent you?
He is a lot better live than Journey, right?

Doesn't mean much to me either.
I was just passing along some info.
I'm no DL fan and am not really interested in seeing a shortened set consisting mostly of the 'Dirty Dozen'.

The only advantage I could see for this tour would be getting back in arenas like the ME tour. But Chastain is a venue Journey has practically sold out by themselves. Why book venues Journey nor Def Lep can fill on their own? It will be interesting to see what the other venues will be. Will the venues be bigger or will the venues be the same with higher ticket prices?

The most interesting thing to me will be to see how many songs off of Gens they play, and which ones. I am hoping for at least 4 or 5.
But this is a concert I will definitely be interested in seeing, depending on the ticket price. I have only seen Lep once before.

I hate to be pessimistic but I think we'll be lucky to get 2 and one of them will probaby be Every Generation. I think they should keep playing OOHW (but with SSB as the lead in) but they backed off on that one some last tour.
I've seen Lep twice, enjoyed both shows. More a fan of Viv Campbell than of the band.
I don't expect Journey to close every time as with the ME tour.

This is an interesting pairing of music styles and I'm not sure I see the connection.
Great music to be heard by both groups but what an odd combination.
Go figure.
Journey On!

Musically, this would be a killer ticket if the Lepps played a lot of the amazing "X" record and some of the good stuff off Euphoria, Slang and such along with the hits and JRNY used the stage to really crank out Augeri era material.
Fat fucking chance of either but still .

Oh I definately think Lep qualify as a hair band. Especially by the time they came out with Hysteria!
