Journey Memoriablia up for Auction

Postby mnmsjrny » Tue Mar 14, 2006 3:48 pm

Hi all --

This afternoon I got an email announcing a rock & roll auction of a wide variety of memoriablia including stuff from Herbie Herbert. You can go to http://www.backstageauctions.com/ for more information. [Now, if only I can hit the lotto in the next month....]

Full announcement:

*"San Francisco Rock Icon Auction" *
*AUCTION DATE: APRIL 23 - 30*

*PREVIEW STARTS: APRIL 17*

*Backstage Auctions* is excited to announce its 1st auction for 2006, planned to take place this spring. The auction will be entirely dedicated to several icons from the *San Francisco music scene*; arguably the single-most influential city in ROCK.

After nearly 40 years of pounding the roads, airways, stages and many doors, lifelong friends *Herbie Herbert, Steve Parish and Bill Thompson *have trusted Backstage Auctions with their dazzling and historic personal collections.

*Herbie Herbert* made his entrance to the San Francisco music scene with the illustrious Frumious Bandersnatch, often opening for the big name headliners at the Fillmore and Avalon. After a 4-year road management and guitar tech stint with the *Santana Blues Band*, Herbie became the founding father of *Journey* in 1973. Taking Neil Schon and Ross Valory from Santana, the foundation was created for what would become one of the most successful rock bands in history. Throughout the following decades, Herbie managed (and sometimes co-produced) platinum recording artists such as *Steve Miller, Santana, Mr. Big, Europe and Roxette.*

Leaving New York for the mind-widening SF scene, *Steve Parish* joined the *Grateful Dead *camp in 1969, where he ultimately became road manager, as well as the personal manager of *Jerry Garcia*. Still involved with the Dead, Steve recently published his intriguing memoirs in *"Home Before Daylight".*

*Bill Thompson* has been the manager of *Jefferson Airplane* since 1968, as well as the manager of *Jefferson Starship*. Bill also managed *Hot Tuna*; as well as every iteration of the bands: *Starship, Papa John Creach and the solo projects for Grace Slick, Paul Kantner and Jorma Kaukonen.* He was instrumental in making the *Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship* bands among the top ten most successful acts in history, receiving twenty gold records.

We are also proud to present personal pieces from *Michael Shrieve*. Michael has written, produced and played on albums that have sold millions of copies worldwide (*Santana, Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones, George Harrison, Pete Townshend, Steve Winwood*, just to name a few). As the original drummer for Santana, Michael - at age nineteen – was the youngest performer at Woodstock.

*Featured Artists*

*Journey, Steve Miller, Santana, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia, Mr. Big, Europe, Roxette and much more!*

*Featured Items*

**4,000* pieces of vintage *records, acetates *and *test pressings*
*Studio *recording reels*
*Original *Stanley Mouse album artwork*
*Impressive *photo collections *from famed photographer *Herb Greene*
*Over *100 Gold & Platinum Record Awards*
*Huge collection of 60’s and 70’s *concert posters *(Avalong & Fillmore)

LOL... I know. I've already pointed that out to them. (Along with the misspelling of Neal's name.) I took a look at some of their earlier auctions from their site and the prices weren't too terribly outrageous.

How about one of Ross's guitars? Just got word that a couple of them will be available. Getting info on some other items, and OH MY GOD! are they cool May need to lock myself in a closet when the auction opens or I'm gonna be in SERIOUS trouble. :)
