Escape Blues

Postby jrnyman28 » Sat Mar 25, 2006 5:45 am

So I was watching some footage from one of the 2005 shows and Journey was playing Escape. Now this is a song most people seem to agree could come out of the setlist. But during one part of the song, Steve did something vocally that reminded me of a blues tune. It was small, just the end of holding a note. but it made me think: What if Journey were to revamp Escape as a full-on blues romp? The lyrical aspects are all there. And Journey has been known for their blues influences. I think the song could take on a whole new life as a blues track, while still giving room for Neal to rock a solo!

Funny, I always thought someone (probably not Journey) should do a medley of their "Escape" with Metallica's "Escape." Both songs have a similar tempo, and although obviously Metallica's is heavier, lyrically they're very similar. "I'll break away, yes I'm on my way." "Out for my own, out to be free." Call it Escape Squared or something.

Deen would be into that I'm sure, the ol' metalhead.

I think they should record more bluesy numbers or even a whole album like Aerosmith did... I would love to see a journey blues/rock album....
