But I was under the impression
the big screens were Steve's idea
Or at least he took credit for it.
He said he didn't want those in the back to miss out on the show.
I'm sure it was a considerable extra expense not to mention the transportation & setup. Steve is sort of a perfectionist and want to make a Journey show one that you could really experience

I have heard HH invested in real estate with the bands money.
Not sure how much input the band had in that and if they thought
it was a good idea at the time.
HH was a sort of father
putting some away for there college funds...LOL
I do think it was a pretty safe and good inevstment
as long as he chose the properites and locations well.
There's also the question of management of these properties
I suppose HH was doing that job too...

As for what he could accomplish for Journey currently? - I'm not so sure.

Recently over on BackTalk it was revealed by a certain poster that Journey purportedly turns down numerous requests to appear on TV.
It's not that they aren't asked, they just prefer not to.
(could be they are still sore after the way Blind Date ridiculed them? Or perhaps they are afraid Augeri will mangle his performance again the way he disastrously did on CBS)

Look, I don't care whose managing them, Irving or Herbie, if you don't appear on TV how do you expect to promote yourselves?

As far as I'm concerned, this is no different than the time of TBF where Perry refused to do any televised performances.

All the men you cited have proven that their drive is still there.

But Herbie has been out of it for a very long time much like Perry has. These two men have proven to themselves and everyone else that they have no drive to continue in show biz.

Where?
Would the increased revenue cover the ad costs?

TV is kind of dated for advertisement

Sammy Hagar is having a date at the GH as well as Ozzfest.
I checked the prices for the Hagar show and was floored.

Seats run from $80 to $500. Heck to sit on the lawn is $35...
With prices like these only die hard fans would buy a tix.
Perhaps they feel the additional revenue would not cover the ad costs.
Still they could be selling more CD's. CD's are cheap to produce and there is alot of profit in a small plastic disc wrapped in cardboard.

You would never see a Journey tune on a 70's 80's type greatest hit complilation. You wanted Journey
You had to buy Journey and with that hit you could find a whole Journey experience because every album is a powerhouse.

They have those gay renaissance faires there, where everyone acts like Euros, running around in tights and drinking cheap booze, and copping feels of the same sex. I don't get that. I was in front orchestra 2 about 2 rows from the front tables

So I think I'll have to ammend my est attendance to 8,000

Don't recall the tix being so expensive in 2000 but then again I got mine free. Even had a drag a friend to see it.
The drive was excruciatingly long that hot summer Friday evening.
The traffic was murder and the car had no AC.
It took hours to get there and I almost passed out from the extreme heat. The car must have been 115 degrees.
then that darn long train...LOL
Literally took minutes to cross the road.
Then we took the scenic tour of Glen Elen
Got lost couldn't find the entrance

Something about listening to a great band under the stars.

I was in center close to the front of the second tier If I recall.
The crowd was kind of loud
alot of talking and laughing and smoking
The smoking makes it difficult for me to enjoy
even in an outside theatre the smoke gets to me...

Actually Shadowsong I distinctly remember having a mixed 70s cassette when I was just a young pup and "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" was on it. Not a Muzak version, the Journey version. It had a lot of other crap though like Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" (alright I admit get enough drinks in me and I'll sing that one) and "Stomp" by the Brothers Johnson. But you do have a point Herbie didn't whore them out.
