This tour will not sell well at all.

Def lep does not have the staying power of Journey. I mean who really cares about seein them now? My guess is not may. I doubt def lep will be a big draw.

I doubt Journey will be a big draw because most people that have wanted to see them in the past 7 years have seen them. Unless you are a die hard, you are not gonna spend money to see them twice.

I do hope at the end of the tour Journey makes a decision to either get Perry back or quit. It's sickening to see a once HUGE band reduced to a greatest hits road show playing state and county fairs.

Aren't they playing 20,000+ seat venues on this tour? What 70's and 80's era band, beside the biggies, can tour by themselves and fill those places? A double bill is the way to go. Just the way it is.

Free, I agree you 1000% about Perry. I have left my base of NIG and 13, to campaign for Perry..I DO think he is coming back for farewell tour.

However, this tour will sell.

Who else is out there?

Not U2, no Bruce, no Stones, no Aerosmith, no Dave Matthews, nobody. This might be the biggest tour of the year.

I noticed they were getting 8,000 with Adams, making 400k per night. As much as i think Adams is better than both of these bands now, he can't draw what these two will together.

Point well taken. I was referring to some of thier past venues.

Even though they will be playing at 20,000 locations, I still can't see how they can come close to selling them out.

I realize that I could be totally off base here. But when you hear Def Lep, don't you think YUK?

Huh? I really don't understand this comment. Do you really think so? Adams was brutally boring. He closed with 3 little-known ballads. Def Leppard had all 7,000 people standing up....there were less than 3,000 left inn the venue when Adams was halfway through his set. I honestly don't know one person who said "I'm going for Bryan Adams"?

Because Americans don't know anything.

Dude, man for man, Adams' band is more talented than Journey or Def Leppard.

He closed with songs you don't know, because he plays new music, not retreaded shit.

I can list all the hits from all 3 bands, and I would think Adams has more hit songs. But concerts arent always supposed to be about hits.

I dont think BA has more hits than Journey, and the only reason he has more than DL is because he's always been more radio friendly and he's put out twice as much material.

I posted "hits" of both BA and Journey a while back. I htink it worked out that BA had more "higher" hits but Journey may have had more singles hit the charts...sort of a wash.

I agree with Rockn'deano. BA has more hits than Journey.

1. Summer Of '69
2. Straight From The Heart
3. It's Only Love (w/Tina Turner)
4. Can't Stop This Thing We Started
5. Do I Have To Say The Words?
6. This Time
7. Run To You
8. Heaven
9. Cuts Like A Knife
10. (Everything I Do) I Do It For You
11. Somebody
12. Kids Wanna Rock
13. Heat Of The Night
14. Please Forgive Me
15. All For Love
16. Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?
17. I Finally Found Someone (w/Barbara Streisand)

Even if you eliminate some of those tracks, it's well over the dirty dozen.

Plus, Adams has a way of getting back... he has a working relationship with MUTT LANGE.

This post is predicated on nothing but your own pre-existing biases.
The fact is Def tours well domestically, and so too does Journey.
I agree it is an ill-paired match musically, but mathematically, it is a sound plan!

Based on my own pre-existing biases?

Yes. But it's a judgement that I didn't just pull out of my hat. It makes sense for a band, that has not had new music on the radio for years, to not draw well. Do not both bands fit this description?

Mathematically a sound plan?

Great. I hope they make a lot of money. And I have said I could be way off base on this. But I think the question that needs to be asked is: Why would the average music fan want to see either band today?

Because both bands have had a huge number of hits that are played every day on classic and regular rock stations. Don't worry, this tour will do quite well.

Sure it is. The facts of the matter are that Journey has been touring well for years now. So has Leppard. So why would this year be any different?

Free wrote:It makes sense for a band, that has not had new music on the radio for years, to not draw well. Do not both bands fit this description?

Yeah, and both bands have fit that description for quite some time now. And still, they've done well for themselves every year.
Journey has toured consistently well since this lineup's inception. And in all their time together, have these guys ever had a mainstream radio hit?
So why the success?
New music is really a moot issue here.

Free wrote:Great. I hope they make a lot of money.

I don't. This band needs a shake-up in a major way. I'm tired of the status quo.

Free wrote:But I think the question that needs to be asked is: Why would the average music fan want to see either band today?

Who knows? But whatever the reason, the average music fan does want to see them and has done so with regularity every year. Hell, I'll prolly plunk down the $45 and go see them again. Don't ask me why. I really don't know.

Your last paragraph's true TNC....and we have at least 3 shows w/ in 2 hr driving distance too. I'll fork out for at least 1. There are threats of a Deano sighting.
yet I have hope that with a different audience will come the opportunity and Jounrey will take it to work out heavier material...the Lepps fans don't wanna hear Faithfully and Send Her My Love and WYLAW and All The Way. Open Arms is probably there (Heavy Metal sdtk and all).

It may not be but you are proving my point with your first sentence here. I can't help but think that a band can not keep drawing large crowds each year by singing the same stuff over and over again.

There are two things that these bands have against them in regard to drawing big audiences this summer:

1. They have been touring a lot in the last five years.

This works against them because most of their fans from their glory days have seen them if they've wanted to. I doubt you will have most of the people that have seen them once in the last five years see them this time. (Of course most on this board and BT will but we aren't the average music fans)

2. No new music to attract new fans.

Common sense says that you can only survive for so long on the same material. Wouldn't it only make sense that the audiences would get smaller each year?

You could have said that about this past tour, and the tour prior to that. Why THIS year?
Why will this be the year that spells Journey's doom?

Yes, but the touring revenues fly in the face of conventional wisdom and/or common sense.
Hell, don't even the Beach Boys still lure decent-sized crowds?

You bring up a good point here with the beach boys. I dont' know, but I would be very surprised if they play in front of more than a few thousand fans now at each show. This is where Journey is headed if things don't change.

I don't think this is the year that Journey is doomed. But I do think it is safe to say that neither they nor def lep will fill any of the big venues this summer. This, however, may not be safe to say but it wouldn't surprise me if they half fill a lot of the venues.
