FRESH on the Radio! Jon Cain & Neal Schon

Postby *Laura » Tue Apr 04, 2006 1:14 am

One hour ago I heard both of them on 98.5 KFOX`s online streaming in San Jose,CA.They were interviewed via phone.Looks like the KFOX listeners voted Neal Schon`s solo from “Who`s Crying Now” ,I quote, “the best guitar solo in the history of rock music”.
I`m going to try write down what Cain and Schon said.First was Jon.He told the story of how WCN was written back in the day.He said Steve Perry asked Neal to come with the simplest guitar solo he could think of.So Neal started playing what we all know and he said:”Is this simple enough?” LOL…Jon said Neal made an effort to play that “simple”.It was perfect,so they recorded it the very same day.
Then Jon spoke about the tour with Def Leppard. He said the idea of Journey and DL touring together came up 10 years ago, when the bands met at this award ceremony where they received a “crystal dildo” (they all laughed like crazy!Jon didn`t say which award ceremony, but I suppose it was the Bammies).Anyway, that was the moment when they talked about a Journey/DL tour.Phil Collen used to go to a lot of Journey concerts, and they began to seriously think about this tour combo 5 years ago.He also said that Journey decided to open for Def this summer;the only thing the guys dislike is that a part of their 90 min. concert will happen before dark,so they won`t have the light show.
Then Cain talked about how he bought back the royalties for “Faithfully” from his ex-wife,Tane.Looks like this happened recently. He phoned her and offered her a shitload of money to get back the royalties. She accepted the deal,so now Jon owns the song. 8)

After that, it was Neal`s turn to get on the phone. He was surprised his solo was voted;looks like he won over the solo from “Freebird”.He also told the story of how he came up with the solo from WCN,and how CBS wanted to cut it out,but Perry and Cain fought for the solo to stay in its entirety.
Then he confessed he loves Jeff Beck and his timeless guitar style;he also said he doesn`t practice on his guitar anymore like he used to do years ago – he just goes out and play live. That`s the best way of practicing for him.
Finally, he said there is a t-shirt that will soon be available for the fans – the Afro Society t-shirt which has his picture with his afro style from the 70s.

Well, that`s about it.There was a lot of laughter and the guys were in a good mood.
The DJs mentioned several times the date of 26th of August when Journey and DL will be at the Shoreline.
