Has Journey Ever Toured Australia?

Not sure if it's been discussed but I was curious
how the band Journey does in the land down under.

I was in Brisbane in 86 & it did dawn on me how nice it would have been for them to be touring at my location at that time but it was more of a fanciful wish.

Was Australia on there tours or did it kind of fall to the side.
I know they were very popular in Japan & Australia is pretty close geographically.

I figured it's a good topic as Andrew is from Australia as are my parents....

Thats exactly right, very close they are. And there is a pretty massive fan base here, since it is Australia (people from all over the world here know who Journey are). One would think they would get a larger crowed here than Japan. Well everything is huge in Japan.

It would be nice to see them here!

Never....and I can't see it happening as they make too much money elsewhere and won't get any such offer here - not from a regular promoter. They woul dhave to take a pay cut to tour here.

I'll continue to try and make someone see sense one day....

5 max....but a band can do it cheaper if they fly in for a quick 2 show visit....such as we are doing with Toto...

Didn't Andrew fly in to the states and catch Journey during the Main Event Tour?
By all accounts they were pretty bad that year.
With most concertgoers saying that Journey was trumped by STYX on a nightly basis.

Foreigner was doing like a 5 show tour down under, tried to pull a "Stones" with ticket prices, and had to pare the tour down to 2 shows if I'm not mistaken, right, Andrew? No one was stupid enough to fork out the prices and they charge SO much that the 2 show tour passed the cost/benefit analysis test.

I would love Journey to have the chance to tour Oz, and I would love them to give Oz a chance to see them! 2-3 shows on that East Coast would't be too difficult. But 'Drew is right. Why would Journey "bother"?

Foreigner are asking stupid money for their shows.....A$135.
Toto we are asking A$80....well, not me at leats, I won't see a cent of that, but I am involved in helping them get to Oz and will be taking care of them in Sydney...should be fun.

Will see if something similar can't be done for Journey...

Trouble is unless the Australia dollar is very high it is usually maxes no more than 85 cents US and has even dropped lower depending on the economy.
so if the Australian dollar converts to say 75 cents US
then the $80A is really only $60 US.

The Australian ticket buyer pays the $80A but in the end the profit when converted to US dollars is less...

Still, it's a shame Journey never did get to tour Australia.
Such a nice country yet I don;t suppose when you're on a tour
you really get to see too much.

How's the Gold Coast doing? Know there are lots pf hotels and casino's right on the beach in So Quennsland. I was there 20 years ago...

Did it ever draw acts like Las Vegas in US has?

Sorry, missed one Q there - Yes, Toto is much better known here, but as far as underground fans and cult following, there would be no problem drawing the same amount of people to a show or two...

Maybe even Perth as well.
IF I was the manager, I would lump in New Zealand too. That way you get Auckland as well.

Brisbane is the capital of Queensland but its a smaller city
as is Adelaide. Perth is on the west coast ...

When I was in Brisbane I walked around it
It literally seemed the city was 13 by 13 blocks square.
I'm from NY so it seemed small.

Heck there are still towns in Australia that have one block of stores...

My Mom lives in a big town of 4000plus
and is lucky to have a few blocks to shop...LOL

Get on the road away from the big cities...
Nothing for miles and forget about venturing into the outback in heat of summer...watch the water and gas and hope you make it to a town before you run out or burn up....

Its just the coast that is really populated.
Sydney is the biggest and richest.
Melbourne is south but never been there...

but I see nothing for the people north of Sydney
just thought there had to be some market place .
The gold coast is like spring break place...

Obviously he could take the heat or maybe he just went there for the winter...oooh and the storms in Darwin....
That's where there is a high population of Aborigines...also very hoy and subject to heavy rains....

Agreed. I live here, and if anywhere will sell out its Sydney. Im in the captial city at the moment, and Deep Purple are playing here soon. I think Canberra could get 1 show, maybe.

Lula and I met this Aussie last night, and I couldn't figure out what the Hell he was saying. He was hilarious though. I kept doin Steve Irwin jolkes, tellin him "what a beauty" and "llok! down theere..a Fawstas!"

I brought up music, and who was popular in Australia. I mentioned ACDC, and so forth, and kept bringing up Andrew..."You know Andrew. He runs a rock n roll board, dude. Come on! Andrew..Andrew mcNiece! You must know this guy..He is a fuckin legend!" He never heard of Andrew..Sadly

Know what you mean but there are different accents in Australia just ike US....say our southern is more like there west.
I find thiose more west & from the outback have a very thick accent.
Hard to understand.
What makes it even harder is some one the words are like a foreign language.

The one that perplexed me the most was the boot of a car...
Well they weren;t talking about a transmission or arm or joint in the suspension...

The boot of the car is the trunk
and the hood is called a bonnet

Oooh peppers are called capsicums....

Oh, water does go down the toilet/ drains in the opposite direstion.
The older houses have doorknobs at above chest level....
Hehehe some houses esp in warmer areas have houses built on stilts off the ground
