They played a couple Santana songs and then the DJ came on and said that this summer Carlos is assembling as many of his early bandmates as he can for a reunion tour this summer. Specifically mentioned as confirmed were Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie. Now this struck me as funny and as a load of BS since Journey is on tour with DL this summer and I believe Gregg is touring solo. Anyone else hear anything about this, or maybe it will be in the late summer or fall? Would be interesting to see, but I doubt it.
I heard the same story on KFOX a couple of weeks ago, though no mention of *anyone* being confirmed, just that Carlos was talking about it and that Gregg & Neal would be members who would be invited. No way it would happen this summer and involve Gregg & Neal since they're both touring unless it were a one-off show. Maybe fall/winter or early '07. Someone posted on the Journey Digest when I mentioned this that Gregg had commented that it was being considered, though I don't know if this was a published comment or a one on one conversation.
I will be seeing Gregg in a couple of weeks, and if I get a chance to chat with him I definitely plan to ask!
I wouldn't be surprised to actually see it happen in the near future though -- about a year ago a book on Latin rock was released and there was a concert for the book release. Gregg's band was the closing act and they ended the show having Chepito Areas, Michael Shrieve, & Neal join on stage so with Gregg & Mike Carabello already there you had most of the original members of Santana, just no Carlos. It was fantastic. The funny thing is when I bought the ticket for the show I had *no* idea that it was for this book release -- I just hadn't seen Gregg's band in a while!
