Foreigner pulled an Augeri...

Foreigner pulled an Augeri recently and replaced ailing lead vocalist Lou Gramm (for the second time, actually). I'll let you decide wether or not this new guy passes muster.

(NOTE: May wish to hit "pause", give the clip time to load and then resume "play")

Hmmm....I wonder if the switching of a lead-singer for Foreigner will create the same kind of "hoopla" as the whole Espee thing...

Lou G. has one HELL of a voice....he's vox #2 on my list of Male Singers...

Espee being #1, of course...

But I think you might already know that about me...

I feel really bad for Lou. His voice just hasn't been remotely the same since he had that health issue.

Recently? Wasn't it done like 6 months ago? (Not being a smartass)

In terms of band member tenure, 6 months really isn't very long.
They haven't even released a new album yet.
Augeri is still frequently referred to as "the new guy" and he has been with Journey for what? Nearly 8 years now or something?
So, yes, keeping it in perspective, 6 months is really nothing.

It's meaningless. Nobody cares. All this is is Mitch Jones feeling a need to act like he's 20 years old again.

I wouldn't doubt that he's paying all the current band members from his own pocket because I doubt they'd be able to get many people to turn out for their shows.

Won't last long.

And interestingly, the guy sounds like Augeri and dresses like Perry in that clip...

I acutally heard Hanson's pretty good and will be picking up the Extended Versions live thing when it comes out. Once Lou quit/got fired again, I thought they should kick over whatever rock Johnny Edwards was under or pack it in. Was unsold on Foreigner w/ a 3rd singer until I heard Hanson on various clips sounding a lot like a pre brain tumor Gramm.
"Mitch" Jones  ......he keeps getting better and louder w/ age as a lot of axemen this side of Edward Van Halen seem to do.

Kelly Hansen is awesome and a top bloke too...

The current line-up for Foreigner is really the Mick Jones Band - he is the only original member.

Yup... something, innit? How the business laws will allow a guitarist who starts and functions as the centerpiece of a band, and plays all his legalese cards correctly, to continue said band with or without variable bandmemebers as he so chooses...without having to change the name of band that he started. "Mitch" Jones is no dope. he knows a lot of people want to see and hear Foreigner continue even if they can't or won't do so without Lou Gramm. What a concept.

It's been almost a year. Lou was out last summer with the Lou Gramm Band while Jones was putting this one together.

You think so? I don't think there will be much demand at all for this. Too many negatives vs. positives for this to work well.

It wasn't horrible, but it makes you appreciate the fact that Journey still has Neal, Jon and Ross, has added an incredible talent in Deen, and a frontman who fits like a glove.

The new lineup is VERY interesting to me.....

Plus, I see Rock-N-Roll bands like sports teams......they change personnel over time...just the way it is

[quote="The_Noble_Cause"]Foreigner pulled an Augeri recently and replaced ailing lead vocalist Lou Gramm (for the second time, actually).

The difference of course being that Mick replaced a singer who was still interested in making music....
I wonder if it was a power play by Mick to get Lou out, if Lou was fed up with Mick, or Lou's health kept him from handling the workload--although I think he has done more solo shows than Foreigner has done since his departure. Surely Lou has been compensated for giving up his share of he name. I think its also interesting that Lou's longtime writting partner Bruce Turgon is also out.

I don't get the feeling any part of the Foreigner brand was ever Lou's to give up. Song credits are a different matter, but ClassicRock mag recently ran a whole feature on the divorce including interviews w/ "Mitch (LOVE that)" and Lou and the guy asked Lou Gramm why he's touring as Lou Gramm and he replied simply, "Because Mick owns the name."
Then, that did not stop Jimi Jamison from touring as Survivor at the time when Survivor (owned by Frankie Sullivan) was defunct. That was the advent of the period when Frankie was as Andrew has so amusingly put it, "was suing people."

Regards to Perry, given all that's been hinted at and demonstrated, I have a feeling that unlike Gramm, he was able to wrest a chunk of ownership of Journey away from Neal at some point and has now given it back in return for some kind of considerations.

Surely Lou was an equal partner in the very beginning, so it sounds like Lou gave up his ownership the first time he left, and came back more or less as a hired hand, not a full partner anyway, bad move. Sounds like Perry or Perry's handlers and lawyers are a lot smarter than Lou's.

See, I don't think so. An equal SONGWRITING partner yes, but Lou was the very last person to join Foreigner before they went into Atlantic studios to recoprd in '77. Mitch ( ) Jones literally handpicked every other member, including finally Lou.

Interesting, I didn't know that, Mick was pretty shrewd. And wasn't he the perfectionist control freak in the band, Lou fed up with his antics in the mid 80s.... sounds familiar doesn't it?

just a bunch of guys parading in and out in very short order. Jones could not find the right sound until he put on a Black Sheep album and drove up to Rochester to call Lou Gramm down off a construction ladder.

Others were singing including Mick before they were Foreigner, but once the band Foreigner was established, it was always Lou.

Mick had a lead voc (sounding kinda like that pretentious windbag Lennon) hear and there up through Head Games. But Lou for the mostpart then w/ 4 Lou completely took over the singing.

Yep, this joint is HOPPING today....Andrew put his server on steroids and the boards are loading like lightning...we can leap back and forth and rapid order to different places....great.
I still will not concede the Glimmer twins thing cuz you had to put Peephole on right now and your just offhandedly dismissed it. NIG, I'm with you, I'm at least joing MR X. I think McNiece just dumped a bunch of jack into upgrading his server speed.

I always loved Kelly Hansen in Hurricane, but I'm not sure if he's the right fit for Foreigner. As someone else stated, it's not even Foreigner anymore with only 1 original member, so yes... it's basically "Mick Jones & Friends"
